Re: Mark's 1999V 825 Sterling Auto Saloon in BRG
So, off to work in the simulator today and the car park was bathed in sunlight so...
Anyone remember the Rover ad with the car parked in front of Concorde? Well here's my low rent version....
I prob should have repositioned the car for better framing and to not have the sun against me, but the thought only occured to me after I had locked up and was in danger of running late!

If i'd known you were going there you could have picked my Volvo HT leads! Apparently they finally landed at LHR at 0154hrs, 5/7/2018.
Joking aside, an even better shot of the car than yesterday!

What's incredible is that it still looks as good as it did (if not better) than in 2009 when this thread started!
Absolute credit to you, especially if it's a daily driver.

Re: Mark's 1999V 825 Sterling Auto Saloon in BRG
Cheers Mark, not quite a daily driver but not exactly 100% as cosseted as I would like all the time either.
I suppose it's as close to a daily driver during the summer as any of mine get due it having aircon though. About 30-40 days use a year, doing 34mile round trip perhaps?
Did this thread really start only in 2009? I got the car in 2004...
"continuous improvement" (hopefully), one of the Japanese concepts brought to Rover in the 90's
Thanks again,

By the way just looking back at the start of this thread because of Mr Fastback's comments, I see that the old photobucket pics are displaying again. Have they reversed the previous money grab attempt?

....and two more jobs on my radar:
1. Tyre dressing - anyone know the best product, prefer the slightly shiny wax look. Liquid silicon painted on with a brush? Any downsides eg rubber perishing?
2. Leather care - never lifted a finger, now nearly 20yrs old. Clean, feed, protect.... what products / methods should I be using? There is slight dirt in grooves on drivers seat. Does feeding bring back bouncyness / spring to strip panels?

Re: Mark's 1999V 825 Sterling Auto Saloon in BRG
This is the one that was recommended to me Mark and having used it, i'm happy to recommend it as well :
https://www.halfords.com/motoring/car-c ... tion-473ml
You choose the finish, first coat on with a sponge, wait then wipe off/buff. Cleaner tyres with a dull sheen.
Second option needs a second coat, on with a sponge and leave to dry. This gives the "wet look" you describe - slightly shiny waxy look.
Whatever you do, don't use liquid silicone! If it spreads out and gets on the treads, it will reduce the grip.
As for the leather, first thing to do is use a vacuum cleaner to get rid of any dust/dirt/grit lurking in the cracks and folds of the leather.
Next is a good leather cleaner - i use Autoglym. Once clean, use the leather balm, again i use Autoglym. If you haven't touched them for a long time, repeat the leather balm a couple of weeks later and depending how they look a couple of weeks after that.
Which strip panels do you mean?

Thanks Dave, I will bear all that in mind.
Strip panels - as in post 96 leather seats with "strips" as opposed to pre 96 flat panel leather. Sorry prob don't know the proper word for what I am trying to refer to!

Gliptone for the leather mark, I only use this on my leather. Gives a nice fresh leather smell in cabin too. Plenty of advice and how to videos on their website.

Re: Mark's 1999V 825 Sterling Auto Saloon in BRG
Unless the leather is really dry and has dried in position with the "strips" squashed, no it won't revive the bounce.
However, if you want to get the seat out of your car, go to your local carpet shop and buy some foam pieces type under lay (the one i had some offcuts of had a tog value of 3.5 as well), you can undo the clips on the bottom of the seat and slide a piece of underlay between the seat cushion foam and the metal sprung "net".
This gives an amazing boost to the comfort and makes the seat feel new again.
You can just see the underlay in that pic, covered in a white mesh material.
Such a small bit of underlay, gives a huge improvement!

Just got it, like when you spend days trying to remember the word for something......FLUTED, the word is fluted, as in flat panel vs fluted leather!
