Re: Charles' early 92 827 manual coupe
No, the seal to fit your thermostat is circular Charles, always have been on the C-series V6 and nothing has changed! Ignore the oval thing, that's a cardboard gasket and is a generalisation. It isn't even in the same orientation as the 'stat on your engine.
That leads me to another question, sounds slightly sarcastic but isn't meant that way - do you actually know where the 'stat is on yours?
If not i'll try and find some photos as it's not so simple and obvious as you'd first think.

I thought after typing my last message that had come across ambiguous, and I thought maybe Dave you might as a matter of fact ask if I actually bought the correct part.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 4:34 pmNo, the seal to fit your thermostat is circular Charles, always have been on the C-series V6 and nothing has changed! So anyway, the part bought has no part number on the stat. There is the temp reading stamped and 3 initials which I gather are the manufacturer initials.
The number on the cardboard box however, matches up for the car (Rover 827)
It could be possible that some gaskets that are oval shaped will fit the stat.
I saw a thermostat gasket on ebay (Australia) to fit the 827.
That was oval shaped also.

I should measure the diameter to compare the stat.

Re: Charles' early 92 827 manual coupe
Definitely the wrong gasket for the Rover Charles, in the bag i have the 'stat seal i have a cardboard gasket the same as listed on the Aussie site. It is not used on the 827, it's possible there is another vehicle such as the Holden HSV which is another car listed in the application list they give that uses it. The Holden HSV (if it's the one i'm thinking of) uses a Chevrolet LS2 V8 so is a totally different animal.
I did measure the hole in the cardboard gasket and it's 48mm, 1mm on that won't make a lot of difference but the rubber seal is larger.
You didn't say if you knew where the 'stat is on the 827?

Unless the thermostat is in a different location to the Mk1 825 (which I doubt) then on the Mk2 827 the part is located as per the diagram.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 8:03 pmDefinitely the wrong gasket for the Rover Charles, in the bag i have the 'stat seal i have a cardboard gasket the same as listed on the Aussie site. That's the one Charles and it also answers your query about the seal. It's all hidden under the throttle body so it's batery and air filter housing out then manipulate yourself with contortionism to get at the 'stat housign.

Re: Charles' early 92 827 manual coupe
Just to get the seal now. You would think things as small as that made inexpensively would be cheap. Its very surprising how prices are so different. Makes the task of finding one cheap more of a burden than it should really be.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 8:31 pmThat's the one Charles and it also answers your query about the seal. Re: Charles' early 92 827 manual coupe
So Dave, just something to note,
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Blue-Print-T ... 3521735294
This was the part you found on ebay. I looked more closely at the picture. There are the initials stamped NTC and then the temperature of 78.
Looking at my part, the exact same things are stamped in the same place. If I flip the part over, on the reverse side; C 25 is printed.
On the cardboard box I have the part number is ADH29205. Where as the one in the ebay link is ADH29207.
Even though both thermostats look similar, I still feel non the wiser.

Re: Charles' early 92 827 manual coupe
Funny you should mention that Charles. I needed a seal for the thermo-switch in the rad (for the fan) some time back and discovered that Mini 1.3i fan switches are the same and use the same seal with a different part number and colour. Further digging revealed the XJ40 again uses the same seal with a different part number and colour. The shocking bit was the price of each :
Mini - about a fiver
Rover - about £6
XJ40 - "That'll be £16 sir"
Out of the three, the Rover is the best one because it's black. The Mini is natural (a sort of creamy whitey-yellow-beige shade) and the Jag is red. The molecules in the black are stronger because of the darker pigment then the red and finally the natural (uncoloured polymer) which will still do the job but not be so resilient.
As for the part number, you'll have to rely on my memory as the Blue Print prats finder doesn't recognise either number now but fairly sure 29205 was simply a hotter version (82C or maybe 88C) instead of having the two-part part number i outlined earlier.

Have a look at this ebay page Charles, Rover 416 1989-95 :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_from ... t&_sacat=0
Also this one in particular :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Thermostat-f ... SwzHFb5JGF
followed by :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Motaquip-VTK ... SwlzVa31Qj
You'll see a pattern emerging there!

Re: Charles' early 92 827 manual coupe
I'm wondering if I should go down the safe route and get the one that Rimmers I have in stock. I inquired about the part - turns out they have an X-part Thermostat, but I will have to ring up again to make sure it comes with the gasket. I really can't remember if the sales man said yes or no to that when I popped the question.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 16, 2019 9:19 pmFunny you should mention that Charles.
