Interesting Dave. Just a Quick question, the syringe looks like more than 50ml, just checking if the amount/unit is correct?

It was actually about 52-53ml Henrik, the plunger rubber is quite thick and the light wasn't great when i took the photo (too many shadows) so it does actually look more like 60ml, when i worked out the 50ml as being about right for half a tank for heavy duty and a full tank for normal cleaning, that was done on the Volvos tank which is only 60L/13.2 gallons compared to the Rover which is 70L or 15 gallons. As such, a smidge over won't matter.

I was hoping nobody would notice it was slightly over 50ml but should have known better! :P  :D
Cheers,
Dave

Apologies chaps, I've only just seen your posts since my last one...no email notifications bizarrely.

I did as you suggested Dave and a few days ago, I removed and refitted fuse 'S'.

Since then, ive noticed the car is ticking over much better at idle. (no very rough idle to note).
Also, there is no obvious misfire I notice by either reving the engine, or driving along the road with the window down to hear this.
Sometimes however, there is still an odd misfire.
Last night I put kerosene based injector cleaner in the half full petrol tank and then brimmed the tank full with Shell high octane fuel.

I have noticed one of the fuel injectors has 'damp' around it.
Makes me wonder if thats a bad injector?

The car has had a good run out today.

Returning home on the by-pass the ABS light just lit up. This has happened before, but will go out again after turning off engine and restarting.

I don't know what to make of that intermittent issue; - but nothing much to worry about I don't think.

Good news that resetting it has cleared 99% of the problems Charles. You'll have to pull fuse "S" again once you've cleaned the ends of the ABS sensors to clear that fault too. It sounds as if one or both are dirty and it flashed up an imbalance in speeds.

When you say one of the injectors has damp round it, what exactly do you mean? Pictures might help on this one. It's possible the fuel railto injector "O" ring is leaking or is the dampness at the bottom?
Cheers,
Dave

To be honest Dave, the injector looks ok right now. But last time I looked there was a sheen of residue on the outer surface that looked wrong there.

Looks fine to me as well Charles, just average underbonnet dirt, maybe a bit of condensation but that shoulnd't effect injectors. :D

Was just looking back at the thread on this car by the then owner who was Ian.
Before he sold the car to Brad, its interesting to note how he explains the car died on his way back from Brands Hatch.
Ian never found out what caused that. He was considering replaceing the ignitor after he did the usual dizzy cap and rotor checks.

I've documented my recent starting issues lately and I put this down to the PGMFI main relay.
But..I don't think that would explain why the car died that time during Ians period.
He says in the thread (below)he serviced the car sporadically.

There was no paper document history with the car before Brad sent me a list of work Brad himself undertook.
The untidy condition of the car would suggest it was serviced sporadically as Ian implies.

It's anybodys guess as to what caused the FTP in Ians time Charles, could even have been the inertia switch on the bulkhead, right hand side of the engine bay.

Officially they have two states, triggered or untriggered. I've found they have a third state. This is when the contats go high resistance because of oxidisation through lack of use. The answer is to trigger it mechanically. I usually do this with a big screwdriver and tap the inertia switch with the handle of the screwdriver until it's heard to trigger.

Then push the button all the way back down until the click is felt/heard and this usually cures them for a good period of time.

I doubt this is what's causing your problems at the moment but could be worth a go as a preventive maintenance item and may in fact improve (but not necessarily cure) your current starting problems.
Cheers,
Dave

The PGMFI light was lit on the dash 2 days ago, just as I nearly got home.
Two blinks, suggesting the front or rear (possibly both) oxygen sensors.

Just to make sure it was no fluke, I reset the battery.
Whilst driving to bradford yesterday, the PGMFI lit up again - same code.

So I guess Dave that your suggestion is a sound one; the blown head (earlier this year) has cooked the sensors..having only just replaced both those back in 2017.
I'll buy 2 of the same new sensors, since its best to replace both front and rear (cheap to buy)

Also I've just bought a new Nissens Radiator from Rimmer brothers.
Was reading various mixed reviews about Nissens; equally good and bad.
I happened to see the same brand new radiator on Amazon much cheaper.
That one was out of stock and on back order.

Could do with replaceing the old rad soon; - I've only just noticed how many fins are missing now
Also got a cheap Japanese brand (new old stock) thermostat to go on as well.
Makes sense to fit this new one, as the radiator gets done.
So that will be 3 times already this year swapping coolant..but hey.
Good thing about this June is its not flaming June..or flaming hot weather.

It's actually the most wet June on record, but I still don't want to break down due to a corroded radiator.
Another inconvenient expense, but I hope one day all efforts will pay off 8)

Coolant is generally the kiss of death for Lambda sensors Charles, whether in steam or liquid form. Wouldn't have helped their fragility being swapped into the new manifold either, sometimes the shock of being undone in the first place is enough to kill them. Good move replacing them as a pair and at least they're a bit more accessible now.

Nissens are generally good radiators, it might be worth re-reading the negative reviews on them as it could be there are other clues there that suggest there was another problem to start with and/or the installation wasn't what it should have been.

As for the weather, it's got me wishing it was February again! Blue sky, sunshine and 23C was nice! :D
Cheers,
Dave

The radiator from RB has just arrived via UPS. So now I'm just waiting on the thermostat and the oxygen sensors.

More work to keep idle weekend hands busy :)

It's a Blue-Print one with the gasket included as far as I know. :D

Blue-Print is good kit, the gasket should be in the form of a grooved rubber "O" ring. Smear a bit of silicone grease or Vaseline on the outside of it to help it slide into its watertight position when you fit it.

What temperature is it you've got?
