I’d say the oil will be fine, considering most cars will go their entire design life on their original oil.

Changed the clutch yesterday, it's like night and day now :D

I'm guessing the judder was caused by the material that's been left on the pressure plate? I swapped the flywheel as well and cleaned it up.

On the car before taking off it off (Clutch masters kit)

Oil seal seems pretty good, only wiped a little grime off it

I didn't take any photos after i fitted the new clutch kit, but it's a new Mintex 3 part clutch kit.

Took about 7 hours, my brother did help guide the trolley jack in and i lifted the transmission onto it, so that saved me hassle and time, last time i did it i used my foot to push it under the car and to jack it up :P

Looks like a previous owner spent a lot of time riding that clutch. That or a lot of "jack rabbit" starts. Maybe both.

Seen similar wear patterns on electromagnetic clutches (and brakes) when they are out of adjustment. Brakes being out of adjustment caused this because engagement is always too close, dust builds up and then it stops with a judder due to the dust being spread out by the braking action.

In clutches, the opposite was true, the adjustment wasn't close enough so again, dust built up causing judder as drive was taken up.

As the adjustment is automatic on the car, this means it's down to another cause e.g. riding the clutch (so it's never properly engaged) or a lot of full throttle starts with deliberate clutch slip to avoid wheelspin.

At least it wasn't the "default option" causing it which would be the crank oil seal.

Good work there Andy - what was the gearbox oil like out of interest? :D
Cheers,
Dave

The oil wasn't bad at all, I still ran it through a micro fibre cloth when refilling it.

Filtered the coolant as well.

I know our weather has been a bit extreme lately but snow in August?

Possible i suppose but doubtful this year! That said i've known a few years where it's been as cold in August as it has in December or should that be as warm in December as it was in the august? :? :?:

Changed the water pump today.. The one i bought for it didn't feel right so i never fitted it as the one on it felt ok, so left it on but recently i've noticed coolant loss and upon inspecting the weep hole, it's leaking......

So i bought a new pump :D

Took a video of it, so when i get round to editing it, it'll be a guide on how to change the belt and pump :)

Afterwards i fitted new front shocks as they were leaking.

Over the weekend i'll replace the rear shocks with the new Koni shocks i have!!

Water pumps do that - they're designed to when the bearings or seal goes. It's a tell-tale to force you to change the pump before it throws the cam belt!

I've got a water pump here i bought as new, when it arrived it had witness marks from bolt heads and a squashed seal/gasket so i'm guessing it was fitted, the "previous owner" found it didn't fix the problem so took it back.
Seems to turn ok but wouldn't trust it myself. Can't make up my mind whether to bin it or offer it for cost of postage but i think that answers my question really!
Cheers,
Dave

Yeah. The Rovor did the same, felt fine so didn't replace it then noticed the same... Not that bad a job to do. My big Dewalt impact makes short work of most things including the crank bolt :) The little Dewalt impact for other things.

Awful weather today so not going to do anything to it today but I've also got a new pair of headlights to go on as the reflectors are manky so are on the dim side.

Although you'll never find it officially, the water pump is a service item at 120k, the timing belt is changed at 96k so most owners (and garages back in the day) would change the water pump with the timing belt.

Similar goes for the timing belt tensioner, most of the time the actual tensioner bearing is ok, it's the tension spring that goes weak. If it's re-used more than once then it won't give the correct tension on the belt, allowing it to jump. I've got a couple of spare springs but there will come a time i'll have to buy tensioners, regardless of the condition of the existing tensioner, just for the spring as they're now NLA at RImmers (XHM463) or at least were last time i checked! RImmers no longer stock the tensioner (XHM461) either so it's Rock Auto for those bits i reckon! :D

Dave

Replaced the rear shocks with my new Koni "reds", the orignal shocks were in pretty good nick compared to the fronts which were leaking.
Set the shocks to 20ish percent from soft.

Then i fitted brand new headlights.
