Oh and I have an extra relay mounted outside the fusebox in the engine bay. A green one. Looks original actually.

You can spot it on this pic.

That extra relay looks like it might be something to do with the ABS at first glance but a second thought suggests something a bit more obvious. I know you told me the translation of the Swedish but i can't remember now so Day Running Lights is going to have to be close enough! :P

As for your relays, going on what the diagram shows, swap the bottom right hand yellow one with the top right hand green one as shown in your photo so both yellow relays are at the windscreen end.

I'm not sure that will help as i can't remember exactly which way round the circuit goes but once you've got both yellow relays at the top, it might be worth swapping them round as well.

Out of interest, does the headlamp flash work?

As for the cabin fan, you'll get the feed from the control panel in the middle, the fan shold be passenger end of the dashboard, best viewed from underneath - very uncomfortable but necessary! Remove the glovebox and trim panel and you should find the fan/heater box assembly  :D
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave. The fan is where it should be then! Great, will attack that as soon as possible.

The relays, I tried swapping them around but no luck. Nothing works whatsoever except the small 5w side lights. No click in the relays, nothing. :( I presume the switch in the stalk works as the side lights go on and there is a warning sound if left on.

The horn doesnt work either but that relay clicks so guessing the electricity reaches the box going in?

Is it possible to measure with a multimeter on the various sockets under each relay -in the box- to see if 12v reaches the relay? Or will I blow something up?

I'll double-check my relays tomorrow Henrik and post a photo if they're different. Something is niggling the back of my mind, something doesn't look right there.

Did you try the flash function on the headlamps? As in just pull the stalk towards you with ignition on? If that works it proves the relay is working.

The power comes into the fuse box on the left in your picture. Just above that "extra" relay, there is one Torx screw without a fusible link attached - that's the power coming in from the battery. Everything goes from there through the fusible links (which can be broken even whey they look ok) and then further split by the various fuses.

Have you tried operating the headlamp switch several times - just slide it in and out rapidly and if you can squirt some contact cleaner in the top of the slide, hopefully some of it will find its way into the actual switch.
Cheers,
Dave

1: Yes. Dead.
2: Yes, but that could be done again, I'll try some contact cleaner in the slot aswell! But the side lamps are switched on from the same switch and those works.

Great tips through your last posts Dave, haven't had time for it all yet but I have something to work with! I'll try them one by one when I work on it next time.

About the relays position, the schematics you posted from the WSM (?) is that for a Mk1 or Mk2? Might there be a difference?

The "extra" relay outside my box is really gritty, I'm going to give that som extra attention...

From a Mk2 Henrik but as i said, i'm fairly sure they stayed the same through the production run except maybe a change on post-96 cars. Think yours is the Mk1c so should be the same as the Mk2 in most things.

I know there was a fault recently, very similar on a Mk1c down under in New Zealand, i can't remember the title of the thread or what it was though. Fairly sure it was a dead relay somewhere but where....... :?: :o

Mine is definately earlier than that, made in 1988 according to Dollysprint and looking at the FAQ that Lord Sterling did it's a Mk1A.

Edit: When I just put the ignition on the fan started working. But when I touched the draw bar for the fan speed it stopped, but that gives me a clue of where to look for that!

The lights are dead. I presume down to relays as there is no click.

I might be wrong Henrik, might not have been a Mk1c but it had the same type of slide switches for the headlamps and 6-dial instruments so although originally registered in 89 it probably is a 1988 model - my memory of all the different changeover points isn't good on the Mk1.

I'll have a look at the Mk1 wiring diagrams tomorrow and see what i can find, if there's a wild difference in the headlamps but i don't think so.

I see you have a fuse in "V" position in the fusebox, that's for the dim-dip - does that work?
Cheers,
Dave

I have a box of Climate Control Packs and i think there are one or two manual controllers in among it all, don't think there's one that has the A/C button on but certainly the slider control for fan speed. Try some contact cleaner through the slot into the pot and slide it back and forth quickly several times - that might get it working. If not i'll have a dig about in the box i have and see what i find.
Cheers,
Dave

Dim-dip brings the dipped beam headlamps on at reduced intensity when the engine is running/ignition on and the sidelights are on. The fact you've possibly got DRLs instead (that extra relay) may have bypassed the dim-dip system. I say possibly because Spain would only have had dim-dip from new but it looks like DRLs (please remind me of the Swedish phrase for them!) may have been retro-fitted using an official Rover kit.

Great news Gunnar has found the information about the lock-box or whatever the official name of it is! Any chance of uploading the images/part numbers?

Dave
