Thanks Marc, yes I got my hands on some Dunlops as it should! Not the cheapest but They will Probably stay on for the rest of the cars life!
And some splendid news, just came back from the testing station, the Swedish MOT and it passed with flying colours, so two more years of trouble free motoring!

Excellent news Henrik!
Maybe reward it with a nice leather gearshift gaiter now?

Oh… But the Vitesse has one already Dave, but the coupe really would need a new one.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sat May 28, 2022 3:03 pmExcellent news Henrik!

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)
Had a bit of a scare today. Went to the shop and the rain was absolutely pouring down. All is well.
Suddenly the wipers didn’t swipe. Oh lord. It’s really bad out there, the wife complains but the journey brings us there and back home, pretty safely.
The clouds are getting thinner and so is the rain. (The story needs to tell that We are going with this car tomorrow some 150 Miles…) I get out and remove everyting to get to the linkage. Spray, lube etc…
Test: nothing.
So I take a hammer and hit the motor a few times. Eureka. It works!
Tomorrow is supposed to be a sunny day. Fingers crossed!

You'll have to take your percussive maintenance tool (hammer) with you tomorrow Henrik, just in case it rains! Sounds very like the brushes are worn and/or sticking, either way a replacement motor is probably the easiest solution.

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)
Yes Dave. Hammer packed.
Problem is finding a LHD motor fitting a mk 1. They are probably out there but could be scarce!
Maybe a mk2 would fit? I might even have my old semi faulty motor still that was fitted to the coupe. That one started acting strangely stopping at the wrong place etc so I got a new LHD motor from Very Tall Brad, and I remember from the discussion the motors were somewhat different over the years.
Another possibility is to have it refurbished if it seizes up totally. I couldn’t do it myself but there are those who Can.
Or next idea, maybe a motor from a series one Legend would fit?

You can be Thor for a day (or more) Henrik!
Joking aside, this might be helpful :
https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog/ste ... motor,8824
It's a rebuild service so would mean you'd be without wipers at all for a while, however it gives you a pointer to expected cost. That said it might be more cost effective to get one from https://www.sterlingfixer.com/ and a quick look through the Parts section revealed more than one type of wiper motor was indeed used on the Mk1 :
https://www.sterlingfixer.com/sterling- ... iper+motor
The VIN number seems important which is kind of annoying, as far as i've always been aware the Mk2 used the same motor throughout and i can't imagine major body changes to accommodate a different wiper motor so it would be down to the connectors and/or linkages.
Not sure on an early Legend wiper motor, i would guess a KA2 or KA3 would be right but that is only a guess.

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)
Thanks Dave,
Well the motor is def knackered so I need a replacement. I’ll be investigating the ”Legend-lead” first as that would be the easiest and cheapest fix for me at the moment. (After trying my old motor.)
Update! Sometimes you get surprise! I just found a second hand motor for a Mk1 here in Sweden. Hens teeth!

Maybe between us we invoked the help of the ancient Norse Gods Henrik and they sent a wiper motor your way! Fingers crossed it's ok and fits without having to perform any jiggery-pokery!

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)
Well I managed to swap the wiper motor for the ”new” one. A bit fiddling as the centre arm came loose a few times so I had to refit the lever/clevis a number of times To get it innthe right position. But now the wipers works as They should. Almost.
Apparently the new motor doesnt have the final little thing where the wipers stop at the plate below the wind screen. I think it should but it comes from an 820 so maybe That was an option? Or this motor is somewhat faulty to. But at least it works!
But I have another niggling fault or problem. If I lock the car the battery drains, within a day or two. And as I don’t have any working locks it’s a small problem.
(Without explaining how, I can actually still open the car in less than 20s)
But it’s a bit of a dilemma and fault finding could be very complicated. So, any ideas? Not a problem with battery drain when the car is unlocked. It can be parked for weeks. But if I lock with the fob it dies in 24h.

Re: Manalishis Mk 1a 827 Vitesse (manual)
Regarding the wiper motor, the most obvious conclusion would be that it is from a mk2 Rover or at least if the car it came from had already replaced it with one. Wipers on the mk2s don't 'park' on the scuttle panel but stay within the dark glass area at the bottom of the screen.
But is the 'park' a motor thing or an ECU thing?
