It was always my understanding that Vitesse models had 195/65/15 tyres Henrik, 205/60/15 will give the same diameter but as the rims are 6J or 6" wide, fitting an 8" (205) tyre is on the limits of the rims capcity. General rule of thumb is no more than 2" wider than the rim for tyre width or they look like baloons and the sidewalls suffer too much flex. For the tyre to grip effectively, the sidewalls need a certain amount of flex but too much and it has the opposite effect.

Like you, i'm unsure if Spain had different tyres fitted, it's possible i suppose as the climate is generally warmer.

Generally speaking the original paint and lacquer tends to be a lot harder than the aftermarket paint, especially after 30 years of curing! As such using T-Cut or similar to polish the black off the wheels will almost certainly work. I'm guessing you've got Silver Sparkle paint, i think there was a brief period where something else was used on Vitesse rims but not for long so there's a fair chance it's right.
Cheers,
Dave

I am like you, I like to keep the original tyre for the spare tyre.

Clearly, you can't use this spare tyre if you have a problem, but, today, it is very rare to get a flat tire, and if, it is difficult to change it (No place to do it in security, too tight, rain !!!) so...

First verdict. It’s fubar. The black paint is obviously a silicone based paint and the paint I got was useless. Cans clog up and spit. Back to the drawing board, Probably need to pressure blast them now and work from the base. I really don’t need this shit right now…

Curses and naughty words! If the paint is silicone based, it might in fact peel off? Also if you warm your spray cans in some hot water before spraying, it often makes the paint flow better.

Fingers crossed the black stuff peels off and you can recover the situation easily! :D

Unfortunately not, it needs to come off by mechanical or chemical way.
Not only are the cans useless, the colour isn’t correct so I need to make some trials on other shades of silver. Happy days.

Oh and happy easter too 🐣

Happy Easter to you too Henrik. Total bummer about the black paint on those wheels though!

Elbow Grease.
New paint, regular Silver. Perfect match. Now it just needs a few layers of two component clear coat.

Henrik, Vitesse dogleg alloys were fitted with 205/60 x 15 from the factory, so that is the correct size

Ok! Thanks Dave, that puts my old spare wheel in a new perspective. I’ll go for 205 then!

Yes Dave. On my wifes side, not too far from home. It’s been in the family since the late 40s.

The Vitesse is great for this. Plenty of space and still a real car.

We went to the recycling station with the old stuff and an old guy called out ”Hey, is that a Rover, it has a six right? You don’t see those very often!” I just smiled. By the way, no one were asked about their Volvo V90s or Toyotas. 😜

It's odd Henrik, i've never known people ask about Toyotas or V90s either - been asked about my 760 a few times but very few people realise that's a V6 and most people thought my Sterling was a 2.0 until i explained it had a V6 as well.

I also have another V6 now, i'll drop you a PM about it in a few days...........

Sort of jealous about having a holiday home but glad in another way as we have to pay taxes on second homes even if they're not used. There are a few exceptions but not many.
Cheers,
Dave

Older cars are always coversation starters. Same thing happens to me on a regular basis as I drive mine all the time. Something new has to be pretty spectacular to outshine our cars. But I feel it is important to keep them clean and presentable as otherwise it's just an old car.

Most new cars are boring, badge-engineered Euroblobs out of two or three factories in Europe with as much character as a wet lettuce. :(
