But I have another niggling fault or problem. If I lock the car the battery drains, within a day or two. And as I don’t have any working locks it’s a small problem.

(Without explaining how, I can actually still open the car in less than 20s) 😂

But it’s a bit of a dilemma and fault finding could be very complicated. So, any ideas? Not a problem with battery drain when the car is unlocked. It can be parked for weeks. But if I lock with the fob it dies in 24h.
What about if you lock the car with the key Henrik? Or if you lock each individual door by pushing the button down and use one of the rear doors as the last one then slam-lock it?
Also even with a flat battery you should be able to unlock at least one door with the key.

Last question on the locking for now, under the passenger seat (drivers seat UK) where the PGM-Fi ECU is, there should be a small black box with "FAN TIMER RELAY" on it. If you can unplug it before locking with the fob and see if that makes any difference. Remember to plug it back in before driving or you won't have any cooling fans!

Regarding the wiper motor, the most obvious conclusion would be that it is from a mk2 Rover or at least if the car it came from had already replaced it with one. Wipers on the mk2s don't 'park' on the scuttle panel but stay within the dark glass area at the bottom of the screen.

But is the 'park' a motor thing or an ECU thing?
If memory serves it's a "motor thing" and was deleted from the very last Mk1 motors, the "twitch" thing as the blades parked never worked on either of my Mk1s (86 and 88) and i think Rover dropped it because it wasn't as reliable as it should have been.
Cheers,
Dave

Dave, I have no working locks, only the fob. 8)

I did get new locks and aimed to replace the lock in a spare door, but it was impossible after 30 years of plastic fatigue. The central locking mechanism was just deteriorated. But the plan is to fit the passenger door I have that has a working lock and spare key! But not there yet. So the car is always unlocked at home. (No visitors so far!)

Interesting idea on the fan relay. But why? Is it a known drain source?

I might be wrong on the wipers. Today I noticed They tend to dip just a tad, so I’ll try to relocate the lever attached to the motor axle just a few degrees, it might make a difference at the other end.

I had trouble with mine many moons ago, bringng the fans on at random but only when the car was locked. Only reason i discovered it was because i was stood in front of it one day and the fans started!

It would do it randomly at first then would eventually do it every time i loacked the car.

There should be a sensor on the rear rocker cover that detects oil temperature and keeps the fans running after the ignition is off and car is locked to cool the oil, this feeds the FTR and the relay itself can malfunction too.
Cheers,
Dave

No it’s working! I had it set a bit wrong in the cycle so now it goes back to ”park” mode. 😎

Following up on Mark/Fastbacks post on speakers.
I did build a hardboard rear shelf earlier carrying two 8 inch speakers, and the sound was great but as I use the car so often with the rear seats folded I decided to try something else on the original Spaces.

The originals were totally shot and eventhough it’s possible to have them refurbished I decided to get some aftermarket.

I remember a post on Facebook where someone fitted Pyle Gear 54 woofers so went for those. Not a perfect fit but very close. No adjusting needed just some pushing and fiddling. The sound is no where near the 8inch Alpines (obviously) but it’s ok. It sounds and I have some kind of music going on!

I did look at Pyle and strangely, I love the funky yellow.

Don't know about your grills on the rears but mine were starting to discolour (oxidise) and what I have done on both cars is spray them silk black (as opposed to matt grey). I have also removed the cloth sheet that was inside the grill, it was falling apart anyway.

I think it looks fine and it would provide a good contrast to those yellow cones. 8)
