Very good overall economy for such a large car Dave! 1.4-1.5 tonne and a pretty big V6. The turbo vitesse is no where near that, and the same with the 620ti. Interesting about the variable inlet tracts. It would be fun with a small camera deep inside to see it in action!

Still some work remaining on the doors and hopefully I'll get my "new" changeover relay before next weekend so I can get the relay box out and start fault finding for the electric windows. That one is a major headache!

Very good Henrik! I always think dark coloured cars reward you more with the effort of cleaning and polishing; they do look shiney. And the wheels are an improvement as well.
If you drive an older car it has to look good. Otherwise you're just driving an old car.

Good economy indeed Henrik, about 16 years back i ran a 620 SLi or Si, can't remember now, alongside a Honda Accord Coupe ES 2.2i auto.

Almost identical cars except the Honda was American and built in Ohio, the 620 did 46mpg on a reasonable run and the Honda did 44mpg.
Bearing in mind the Honda had an extra 150-200cc and was auto as well and usually driven harder than the 620, it did well. That said they were both virtually the same engines despite one being built in Swindon and the other in Ohio! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Spot on Mark! There is still a long way to go but eventually I’m getting there! :)

Oh, I must reviele a dark secret on the wheels. My usual wheel spray was out so I grabbed a can of ”bug removal spray”. I sprayed them and left for a few minutes thinking ”That’s not gonna work!”

After 2-3minutes I spotted a small black line running from the rim so I gave them a good blast with the power washer, and my God, they have never been that clean before! Everything just vanished! It was like a bad commercial on the web.

Nice find Henrik! When your bug spray runs out, buy yourself as many boxes of high strength dispersible/soluble aspirin as you can. Also a plant sprayer or a bottle with a lid if you prefer to brush it on.

If memory serves i used 6 x 75mg tablets in 500ml of hot water to dissolve them, squirted a (very) filthy wheel and waited until the dirt turned cherry red then hosed it off to reveal a very clean wheel!

It wasn't entirely a chance find, it's based in science so when i asked the pharmacist for more than they could normally sell i explained i wanted it for something different to the normal use. Turned out the (female) pharmacist was a petrolhead so not only believed me but thanked me for the tip (she had a classic as well) and confirmed it would work.

The salicylic acid (aspirin) reacts with the brake dust (mix of steel and whatever else the pads are made from) and loosens it and turns the rust and steel red.

Then it can simply be hosed off. :D
Cheers,
Dave

Excellent tip Dave! This stuff removed old Grease from my cv joint aswell! And that is seriously sticky stuff! I had a cracked gaiter on the coup and the grease was everywhere Thanks to the centrifugal forces.

Not surprisingly, the dissolved Aspirin is also a good degreaser Henrik, most acids are though.

Split/cracked CV gaiters are indeed horrible, they redecorate everything you don't want redecorated! Had one go on the Sterling and there was very little grease left to go anywhere but that was bad enough! Cleaned the worst off and then did the CV joints (bpth new and new CV boots as well) and a few other suspension bits (including the ball joints, silly not to while the CV joints are out) then later i squirted degreaser on the areas covered in grease and let it soak in before giving it the pressure washer treatment.

Next major clean under the bonnet/round the suspension etc will be with the steam cleaner but that will have to wait for a the right day! :D
Cheers,
Dave

I made a bit of fun. I’m not too much of these things but somehow it felt a bit like a tribute to a manual vitesse. Obviously no one ever will have a clue but that kind of flavours it. 8)

Funny, I was thinking of doing something similar; forget the Nurburgring! It is a planned pilgramage of mine to take my (2L turbo) Vitesse to the Isle of Man and drive the course, although not at an average of over 100mph! Being closer than Manchester to me, you'd have thought it was easy. I also need to get the car respectable, which it isn't really right now  .

Very nice Henrik! Those who know what it means will see it as very fitting!

Mark, the original Tony Pond Vitesse (which was a similar red to your pic) now has a 2.0 turbo under the bonnet sodriving the course in yours wouldn't be too far removed from the original!

I'd also like to take my Sterling round the course as well but like you, i wouldn't be aiming for a 100mph average time!

Maybe one day, post Kung Flu and when i've saved enough funds to get there and back and hopefully feel well enough for it................
Cheers,
Dave

Oh and that reminds me of an old dream, to bring my Austin Seven ”Racer” to Shelsley Walsh to run the hill climb. Or even an imagine lap around Brooklands! Mine is pretty nippy so I think it wouldn’t have been ashame back in the days.

That would be quite a sight to see Henrik - your Austion 7 doing the Shelsley Walsh hill climb!

I believe there's an event at some point through the year that let's spectators drive their cars round a racetrack - Goodwood or Brands Hatch i think, don't think Brooklands is available these days.
Cheers,
Dave
