I like the idea, but to be honest, the war I had changing the bearing on my last Vitesse alternator, and the ease of handing someone £40 to bung a (secondhand) one in, suggests I might take the easy option.
The part no is JPB100690, which also correlates to a Volvo. There's a couple of used Rover ones on ebay, and a few Volvo. If I can be sure of getting the right bits, I could refurb the secondhand one, but I'll want to just hand over a unit for fitting. Reconditioning the one currently on the car isn't a cost effective option.
Are you sure that's the right part number Adrian? Searching Rimmers for it brings up "Do you mean JPB100680?" Update on this, i just looked a different way on RImmers, 690 is NLA, hence not bringing up any results!
That fits many other 2.0 models (2/4/600 series) but the slightly different part number might relate to different brakcets. The 827 also uses the same compressor but has different brackets and hence a different part number for the complete assembly.
However, if you can find the manufacturers part number (think most are Nippon-Denso) you should be able to widen your search even further.
That said, they are all likely to suffer the same problem - the stator clutch bearings for the compressor clutch are likely to have
Brinelled and the "new" one is no better than what's on there and still needs the clutch bearing renewed. There are tool kits available to remove the compressor drive pulley and stator clutch assembly including the bearing and then you fit a new bearing, refit the stator and pulley, job done. I need to do mine but i've needed to do it for several years now!
If i forget and use the A/C, i get a noisy reminder!
