It is, yes. The car was owned by James (nitro something, can't fully recall his screen name just now) and the cooling fan wasn't working, causing HGF so he retro fitted a "tradional" thermoswitch in the radiator or a manual switch, not sure now as it's a while back.

Adrian is now revisiting this job as the thermoswitch appears to be rated at too high a temperature or is defective, unclear which.

The relay has been proven (again) to be ok so it's all down to the switch in the rad it seems.
All done! Painlessly swapped out a 115 degree switch for a 92 degree (I think) and it's all working beautifully! Thanks for the steer (the current draw is so intense when the fan kicks in, it actually pulls the revs down to an almost stall)

Whilst I was there, I also fitted a new throttle body rubber mount (old one pictured) and successfully removed at least one of the air intake leaks I was suffering with.

Runs perceptibly smoother now, although I'm still pretty sure I've got a leak some where around the intake manifold. Will spray some easy start or similar to see if I can confirm.

Excellent results Adrian! I take it the idle speed recovers itself fairly quickly?
Cheers,

When the fan comes on? Yes, recovers immediately. It's like the dip you get when a/c kicks in, only a little more intense.

Given the fan is now under separate control from the thermo-switch rather than ECU control where the ECU would get a signal internally the fan was about to come on, i think it's going to be one of the things you'll have to live with but if it recovers instantly, not too much of a problem. :D

As my dash-swap continues (see here: http://www.rover800.info/forum/viewtopi ... 37#p155337), I though I'd take the chance to get my clutch pedal out so I can take a trip to the bearing factors tomorrow

Eek!

Definitely looks like someone has "tried" fixing it in the past! I didn't save the last spare one i had because mine are (or were) all auto and the majority of the V6s are. Don't know if anyone is breaking any 800s on ebay but might be worth a look.

Looks a likely candidate!

Wow. That was seriously worked upon with a hacksaw. If you can’t find another pedal and have access to a welder you should really fill it up, grind it down and re do the hole. A Bush is obviously larger so it could work with enlarging the hole to fit a larger Bush.

I've been in contact with them, but I've not yet managed to get an actual price out of them. Annoying.

Sadly, I don't have a welder. I had thought about getting a garage to just plug it for beer money, but then the hole would be governed by the quality of my 'hand held drill whilst the pedal sits on a garden table' efforts. And I'd probably struggle to get the hole accurately located as well - I don't have any data points.

Fingers crossed they come back to you with a sensible price for a good clutch pedal! Definitely looks like Dewhursts worked on that pedal previously, no knowing where the hole should be as it looks like it's already been filled with weld and then the excess cut off with a hacksaw!

Dave

Agreed - that's exactly what I think happened.

Thankfully, I've fixed it!

The pedal feel has been transformed, although obviously the real proof will be in the driving, and I'm a few days away from that yet.

I took a trip to (a few) bearing places, and in the end a very nice guy gave me one of these:

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/283294138857

I got home, drilled out the misshapen hole to 11mm + a bit, then used the vice and a socket to press the bush in. It slightly distorted because the hole I'd made wasn't quite 12mm, so the clevis pin would only fit if pushed firmly. So a very, very light touch with an 8mm bit to the centre of the bush and all is good.

Very pleased with that.

Looks ace! Your pedal will transform the driving for sure. Such a small thing and such excellent result!

Clutch feels fantastic now - so pleased with that result, I went and got the aircon regassed.

Result is that now makes a fairly unpleasant grinding noise from the compressor. The place that did the regas (for £35) have said they'll recover the gas, fit a new compressor, and refill for £40 so providing I can find one I trust, I've said go for it.

There's a couple on ebay, so I've just fired off a few questions - hope to hear back soon
