It said it was compatible with 820 so it should be the right one. We shall see...
Fingers crossed then! All too many sellers think it's "one size fits all" on the 800 series and are disappointed to discover they're wrong most of the time! :D

RIght, so as I bought a new lambda sensor, and today bought a special socket to remove it, I connected the laptop up to TGM and it seemed to behave...
I have some pics of the display on petrol at idle, on idle on gas. 3000 rpm on gas. I then took pics of the changeover screen on gas at idle and 3000 rpm. Lambda readings look OK? Comments welcome.

Did the Lambda voltage go up at all at any point Scott?

Yes. It went around 0.0 to 0.14. Usually sat around 0.1 v

Even with my special removal socket, I can't get the Lambda sensor out so will have to farm it out to the local garage.

Dave, Where is the external temp sensor located? I've been having a feel round but no luck yet. The cable has become detached so that will tie in with the air con error code. Can't see it in the manual either.

ETA: Found it. It is the socket that it plugs into I'm trying to find now!

I usually get the engine warm so the manifold is hot then use a 2' breaker bar on the Lambda socket. Obviously needs care to avoid barbequed paws (especially on the V6!) but the heat makes life easier.

The connector for the external temp sensor should be easy enough to find as it won't be far from the sensor. :D

Dave

I did warm it up but the socket felt like it was going give way. Garage will have a gas torch! The replacement sensor it correct and fits the electrical connection which is something.

Usually a bit more effort at that point and that's when the sensor shifts. Wouldn't fancy using a gas torch on the V6, not enough room to get in there, can't imagine the T series has that much more room as the block is upright and has the turbo in the way too.

Dave

No turbo on TGM. It's not too difficult to access in fact. Blooming clutch has started to slip on TGM as well now.
I'll search the thread for a replacement clutch type - I'm sure I read about a recommended type recently and in fact it was possibly you! - Whet type did you recommend?

For some reason i'd got it in my head it was the lambda on the turbo.

I think you are thinking of the alternative turbo clutch i suggested which is the diesel clutch. If memory serves they are the same size as the turbo clutches but stronger and certainly a lot cheaper. As TGM is n/asp i suspect you'd get a normal clutch cheaper than that though.

Dave

Gone for this one:

Thermostat on TB2 is sticking open a bit so that's another job to do. Are they same size as MIni and other std thermostats?

ETA seems so. I have a mini one in stock.

Clutch - yes, thermostat NNNnnnnnoooooooooooooo!!!!!!

It's an 88C 'stat on the Rover, if you fit the 74C Mini one it will be overcooling which could leat to HGF because it will create hot spots in the head, rather than keeping it at an even temperature all over! Also the heating system needs the higher temp to give a good output in winter. Standard 'stat on the UK 2.7 is 78C, the auto box only goes into lock-up for the torque converter at 74C or above so no margin for error. All other markets use 82C or 88C (i believe there's also a 92C "Nordic" 'stat available but not seen one for ages) but i have an 82C 'stat in mine which makes a huge improvement to the heater - that's only 4C over UK standard, imagine dropping 14C below standard on the 820 and it would be chilly in there, to say nothing of probably not coping with the LPG reducer so you'd end up switching back to petrol because the reducer had iced up!

I've just been up to my unit and the stat I have is stamped 88, so I'll give that one a spin. Unfortunately I can't do it today and I'm away in Cheshire all week. Hopefully next weekend.
