I'm afraid that has been tried and made no difference.
It is set to petrol only for now to narrow down (!) the issues...

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
Let's see if I can help at all.
What's the exact symptoms?
When did they start?
What's been changed to date trying to resolve?
Sometimes a fresh approach helps.
From what I can gather re-reading the thread a ways back it's having issues coming off the cold start enrichment part of the map. Ideally we'd have a wideband up its backside so we can see what the AFRs are doing during it's rough running.
Chances are it's got a dying fuel pump or filthy injectors - I know from when I had it to keep 99 in the tank at all times full to the brim. once in a blue moon switched it over to petrol and booted it for a 1/4 tank to clean out the petrol injectors.
It's done 170k odd now and wouldn't surprise me if the injectors want a professional clean and the fuel pump replacing.
HOWEVER
It behaves the same on LPG
So that now points to an ECU related issue as the LPG ecu just multiplies the fuel injector pulses.
I can't recall if we fitted injector emulators to it when we did the conversion however it's possible over time (if there are no emulators) that running at a very low resistance has damaged the drivers on the petrol ECU.
Or we have a sensor fault feeding the petrol ECU duff information causing it to misfuel (this is most likely out of the bunch so far)
If I recall correctly, RAVE workshop manual has the sensor output calibrations listed under the diagnostics section so one is capable of checking the outputs from any given sensor are in fact within normal parameters.
If the above (when shown to whoever is working on it) doesn't get you anywhere then either someone else needs to have a look who's more experienced or give up and chuck in a standalone aftermarket ECU in with aftermarket sensors. (DTA fast or SCS delta will do, doesn't need an all singing all dancing motorsport one)
Thoughts?

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
Sorry if it came across a bit strong, I've learned an awful lot on correct diagnostic approaches over the last 4 years or so and it's one of those where I know that particular car very well and it's quirks (at least the ones from when I owned it!) So hearing about it misbehaving and not being able to be there to fix it makes me a bit sad to be honest
It's most likely something LPG system related as it was done nearly 10 years ago now and on a strict budget with the tools and knowledge we had at the time. I think back on what we did and go "Could've done that a bit better" so it wouldn't surprise me if it's something I've done that's caused it
Doesn't help I miss the old girl something dear!

Thanks for the input guys.
I'll talk to the garage this week.
Harry says if they can't fix it he would look at selling it...

Ha! Nope, I just loved seeing some super helpful info dredged up from the depths of memory. It makes me hate the weather even more, as it's another excuse I can use to not start the work to get mine back on the road.Alucard7002 wrote: ↑Thu Jul 20, 2023 10:50 pmSorry if it came across a bit strong, I've learned an awful lot on correct diagnostic approaches over the last 4 years or so and it's one of those where I know that particular car very well and it's quirks (at least the ones from when I owned it!) Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
I have been given the number of another contact who is supposedly really good at fault finding and is also an LPG guy. He is retired but takes on some "special" challenges....
In discussions, the ECU has come up as a potential offender. Can I get another ECU to try, but do I need the Fob with it, or how do I get it to sync with my fob? Does anyone have an ECU and fob I could buy or borrow?

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
You'll need the ECU, CCU, reciever (fag-packet size box under the back end of the centre console) and the key from the donor for the transponder (dangle it on your key ring but use your own key to operate the steering lock/ignition) and obviously make sure that when the donor ECU etc is removed, the ignition key is removed from the ignition before the battery is disconnected and ditto on yours so the immobiliser lockout isn't triggered.
It's certainly worth a try, nothing to lose as you'll have the other set as a working set of spares if it turns out not to be the ECU at fault. The symptoms are certainly pointing to something other than the usual suspects which really only leaves the ECU.

Anyone got the above parts? ECU CCU and Fob? 1987 820.

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
Yes it's TGM. I was hoping to get a replacement ECU and bits to see if that is the culprit.

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
Surely that's a 1998 or 1999 car though?

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
That can't be right. Must be at least a '99 on a 'V'. My Sterling is a 'T' plate registered on the 16 August 1999 (who the heck registers a car then?). 'V' plate came in from 1 September 1999 and ran until end of February 2000.Yes 98 on a V.
It is highly possible that the car was made in 1998 but not registered until 1999 or even 2000.

Re: Thunderbird 2, The Green Machine & Turbo Coupes
It's a bit closer than a 1987 820 Mark (about 4-5 posts up) which is what i was querying. You're right though, 99 or 2000 is V reg, my Jag is Sept 1st 99 registered (originally a demonstrator), R reg was 97/98, S was 1st Sept (Aug?) 98 to 28th Feb 99, T was 1st Mar to 31st Aug and V was 1st Sept 99 to 29th Feb 2000. I think!Fastback wrote: ↑Sun Aug 20, 2023 10:17 pmThat can't be right. Must be at least a '99 on a 'V'.
