I went in Bourgogne this week to my brother's second home, and I took the Rover.
The travel was 380 km and the car was very pleasant.
I drove 15/20 km/h over the speed limit and the consumption was on the computer at 8.8 l/100 km which is good (~ 30% was roads at 80/90 km/h, ~ 60% was 4 lanes at 110 km/h, ~ 50 km on the motorway (130 km/h in France) and only 10/15 km in a small towns) The average speed was close to 98 km/h.
The power was realy enouth to overtake everyone.
The only issue I had was with the fan speed only running at high speed or not at the end of the trip

One of the objectif of this week-end was to come back with my brother's car to put it in a specialist near my home to make a very big services. My brother lives normaly in Luxembourg and there, the garage are very expensive and he doesn't know some specialist there (And he just bought his house in Bourgogne)
So I came back with his Jaguar XJ8 X308 3.2 Sovereign. It is an 1998 model.
Clearly, the car is very more confortable. The seat and the suspension are a little better, but the noise are clearly better. There was more people on the road, and rain. I drove as with the Rover, but the average speed was only at 95 km/h and the consumption was at 12.4 l/100 (At the computer). The Jaguar is with and automatic gear box (5 speeds) heavier (~1800 km) but more powerful (243 horses power). I prefered to drive the Rover on small road (I love automatic gearbox, I have 4 cars with this system) but I prefered the Jaguar on 4 lanes and motorway, but with the comsuption of the Rover !!!

More lovely pics Stephan! With the fan, it may be that the temperature in the car was so close to what you'd set it at that the fan only needed to run briefly at full speed to bring down the humidity or raise the temperature quickly to maintain comfort levels. I've had that a few times with mine when using it in auto mode on the ATC unit.
I went from an XJ40 3.6 to a late Mk1 Sterling many years ago, out of the two i preferred the Rover for long journeys, found it more comfortable and more economical and no real difference in noise or ride quality. Each to their own i suppose!
