Nice work on the centre caps Stephan, looks like some serious camera kit they have there - magazine feature?

Also answered your fan query on your other thread with an idea, think i saw your other post further up in this thread but wasn't feeling too well at the time and forgot to come back to it.
Cheers,
Dave

Effectively, I was jealous about Marc and his article were they tested the Saab 9000 vs his Rover 800, so I called the biggest vintage car magazine in France and said to them to make an article about my Rover 827 !!!

Of course, it didn't happen that way. But I met a vintage car journalist a year ago, and he called me recently to ask if I knew of a nice car to try, because they were coming to Angouleme to try a Simca 1100, and they wanted to rationalize their journey to write another article. So I offered my Rover 827, and they accepted...

It was a very interesting day even though the weather was not good and I had to wipe the car several times. As they had another appointment at 3:30 p.m. we only took the photos from 9 am to 2 pm. (And afterwards, since we are in France, we ate in a good restaurant!!!)
I see the journalist tomorrow to test the car.
I'll tell you more tomorrow evening or Sunday..

It was a bit of osteomyelitis in my foot, a bit of sepsis for good measure and a few other things that put me a bit out of shape but thanks for your concern. On stronger antibiotics now than i was then and they seem to be working thankfully.

I can certainly relate to being jealous of Marcs car, it is certainly superb. However over the years he's had to do lots of little things such as the wheel centre caps and many other things and both his Vitesse and his SD1 are a credit to him. It's nice to see you preserving yours in a similar way. :D
Cheers,
Dave

One picture when we make the travelling in the center of Angoulême. It was difficult and we took some risks

Image

The journalist really appreciated the Rover (Chassis balance, comfort, interior atmosphere, equipment, engine -performance, sound-...) and even certain faults that I found in my car were not for him (The velvet on the storm doors, air noise above 100 km/h, locking of the gearbox is firm) Well, there are still a few faults (rough assembly, cheap sun visor (plastic and velvet), powerful braking but requiring press the pedal well)

I don't know when the article will be publish, but when I will know, I will come back to tell you what he write really...

The transmission lock-up should be fairly smooth Stephan, when did you last change the ATF and what fluid did you use? Might also be low on fluid as well.

As previously mentioned, the thermostat can cause problems with the auto box lock-up but looking at your Temp guage now, it looks ok and with the standard 78C 'stat there's only a tiny margin for error when the 'stat gets weak as the PGM-Fi ECU only allows lock-up (via the EAT ECU) when the engine temperature is above 74C. Things start to get a bit harsh when it's only just getting to 74C, a 'stat from a 1989-95 216/416 is hotter and a direct fit - gives improved warm up in winter and makes the engine more efficient in general. Standard 'stat is 78C and the 216/416 is 82C and was a Dealer Upgrade in some countries.
Cheers,
Dave

I have a manual gearbox, Dave.

As I tried to say with my school English, I find it difficult to disengage the gears especially 5th gear, but the reporter finds it fine, firm but fine.
I think it comes from the habit of my other manual gearbox cars which are less firm.
But I think I could give him a gearbox oil change, it won't hurt it.
Do you know what oil to use?
I found this info: Fuchs Titan Supersyn 5W40 or Titan Syn MC SAE 10W40 - 2.2l

I forgot you had a manual Stephan and the auto transmission does have a lock-up clutch as you've obviously guessed by now.

If you are finding it difficult to disengage and possibly engage gears, it would be worth looking at the clutch including the pedal where the fulcrum pin for the master cylinder goes through. Henrik had a similar problem because his had worn there. (Any chance of adding some pics Henrik?)

Yes, 10W40 is the oil specified for the manual gearboxes on the 800s, i belive a semi-synthetic is usually the favourite. It might make cold changes a bit stiffer but should improve hot changes, especially if it's never been done.
Cheers,
Dave

Sorry Dave those pics are gone. Maybe they are in my Vitesse Coupe thread? It was my coupe that had this problem. The hole in the pedal where the fulcrum pin goes, plus the pin itself was worn so the pedal was wobbly and not returning properly - and overall had a very low action. I solved this by drilling the hole oversize and fitting a bush plus a new pin.
