Well if this one doesn't sell, I'll strip the car and weigh the engine.

I might have to take it to work though to use the weighbridge as I suspect my bathroom scales might not cope very well. 😂

No problem Chris, you first take the engine in your arms, step onto the scales. Then you put the engine to the side and step onto the scales without it. Compare the result with/without engine. 😜

Looking like it won't come to that Henrik. 😂👍

I've had a deposit left on the car and it's supposed to be being collected next Saturday.

A localish guy is having and plans to get it on the road and use it without trying to make it into a show car.

He says he has a few of them but our paths have never crossed.

Sounds like a good solution. Hopefully it will survive a few more years then. Actually I don’t mind if cars are used and finally gets written off after a good long service. Not all cars can be restored to show car condition. Who knows, a few years from Now it might change owner again turning it into that.

Well eventually after more faff than you would believe, it's finally gone.

I think after this one that will be it for me and 800s. I'm just in a different place these days.

I've even sold off the last wall sign I had, which I'd had laying around for years.

I honestly can't see me trying again.

This one was cheap so I went for a look at it that was all.

Overall as I've said before I think I've moved on, and without more space or time having one sat around just to take to an odd show makes no sense for me.

It was never going to become a daily driver and they just aren't practical enough, which is partly why I sold up before.

To be honest Chris, given how quick you sold it i'd say you'd moved on before you got it - it was an itch left to scratch to prove it to yourself in a way.
Perhaps if it hadn't been the povo spec and had handled better "out of the box" things may have been different for you and you may have caught the bug again. However i've seen similar with a friend of mine round the corner.

At one point he had a whole fleet of them, mostly on the road each and every day, he did tell me how many he had at the most and it rivalled VTBs total ownership (if memory serves Brad had something like 100 total?) but through various things he also moved on, he now has a thing for those strange BMW things with Rover and MG badges that were meant to take the place of the 6/800 series. Recently sold the 827 SLi that i originally bought a few years back and doesn't seem to be missing it.

As for practicality, it all depends on the individual and what they want a car for. :D
Cheers,
Dave

I guess I had/have. Spec wasn't an issue for me.

It being a manual was the major thing for me. Which were almost always base models.

I guess I'd forgotten how much effort/time/money I'd put into the cars I had in the past to make them how I wanted them.

I think maybe I was chasing the memory of the old days too, times have changed and I guess that's it.

Here's how I'm spending my time now.

I bought a trailer a few weeks back. Still waiting on Boris the clown to decide which way they're going on licences though. 🙄

Until then I can use it on L plates with an appropriate supervisor/passenger.

I picked up another Twintop last week. The 11th in a year!

I don't remember the exact date other than it was arond 2000 but if you passed your test before then you automatically have "grandfather rights" on towing a trailer. Were you one of the unlucky ones that passed your test just after the "watershed" and as such have to take a test (under current law) but may be granted grandfather rights in the near future if things go according to plan?

Yeah that's where I am with it, basically.

The law changed in 1997. It's a pain to keep legal but I'm not bitter towards it as I'm not old enough to qualify for grandfather rights. I was born in 1981 and passed in 2000 for reference.

The law was going to change on the 15th of November but it's now been pushed back to who knows when.

The stupidity is they've frozen taking a test too. So legally L plates is the only way I can use it at the minute.

Not a big issue overall as I'm only using it here and there.

If the law doesn't change and they allow tests again then I'll look into that.

It would also allow me to use my Jeep to tow my caravan. I can't legally now due to being over the 3.5T gross train weight.

The Jeep is around 2.5T gross and my caravan is 1.2T. That's why we use the Astra estate we have as that's a lot lighter, around 2T gross.

Not the end of the world but it would be nice to know which way its going. Based on some the decisions and antics of the government lately I'm not hopeful.
