Then with Smiths Infinity 17" wheels - These also went onto my 97 820 SLi Fastback - offset was slightly out and th tyres touched the rear arches... great looking wheels though.. Sold the wheels to a guy with a 620 Ti in the end - at least they went to a good home.

A few years later and I got my first Vitesse, and my first Turbo. Got a Mechanical boost control valve (ball and spring) and the optimum boost on std fuelling was 14 psi (5.5 psi std at 180 bhp) I think it was 240 bhp+ with 0-60 timed in about 6.5 seconds. I really miss that car, only sold it to get a Vauxhall Calibra 4x4 non turbo, which became available. Maybe I should have stuck with the Vitesse...

Now I have a 98R Rover 820 Sterling Coupe. It's early days and there are jobs to do, but this is a keeper, T series looks good, I think I need a new throttle body / stepper motor though. Pics as per welcome post but hey, photo bucket are doing the hosting!

My Dad is also a BL / Rover man, having owned Marinas, Maestros and Rover 214's since I can remeber...

I've had 6 rover 820's, by far my favourite cars..

My first 820 was the same colour as your grey one there.

Mine was a 91 J though and only an Si.

The Red Vitesses number plate rings a bell, I might have seen it on ebay.

Mine was an Si too, and might well have been late '91, although feb '92 seems to ring a bell.

Good choice! paid £1000 for it in 2000, then gave it away a year later 'cos it wouldn't start and I had just started a business, so i was driving a van... turned out to be a blocked cat - in fact I Gave it to a guy called Chris!

Hi Lord Sterling. The pictures of the J reg Si aren't that good, it actually had a blue tint to it. I did however have a 96 si saloon in the same coulor as your sterling. I'll try to dig out a picture.

The red vitesse was living a few miles away where I regularly pass in Gloucester. It went about 6 months ago but the same people live there I think so I expect it was sold or scrapped recently. I only had it running non std boost for a couple of months, it was great, you could control the boost with your right foot, if you wanted 10 psi then you could hold 10 psi, or flat out was 14 psi, even at 1500 rpm! everything else was completely standard. Sold on completely std.... except for a home made spoiler made from a chopped and rejoined sierra spoiler (photos to follow)

the best looking was my 98 flame red all colour coded 820 sli fastback, which was just under 4 years old when i bought it. wish i kept that one! looked great on the 17" 5 spokes! No photos of that one for some reason?

Bought mine in 2000 as well strangely. Cheaper than yours though at £450 as I remember. Spent way too much on it though as a result.

Biggest mistake of my life. It was a brand new Colour Colection 3 dr 1.0 vvti. great car for anyone under 5'11, however, with smashed up ligaments and cartillage in my right knee and the onset of Arthritis, it was the least comfortable I have ever been. Once I Drove 200 miles and was almost reduced to tears! 18 Months and 14,000 miles later, I tried to px it for a corrolla but they werent interested, I was £2,500 in negative equity with it due to massive depreciation (pre facelift model) so In the end I parked it obstructing the dealers gates and posted the keys throught their letterbox, then I got into my new £600 96P 820 sli pictured above and drove off with a big smile on my face... The reason I bought it... I thought I was doing my bit for the environment. :roll:

The reason I hated it. - It was brilliant, but All it needed was petrol and tuning of the key, I got bored ! and I was uncomfortable!

33% or 6 out of 18 of my cars have been 820's

I very nearly bought a mk1 827 fastback as my 2nd 800 in y2000. however after a great test drive in the 827, the mk2 92J 820 pipped it to the post, based on looks, MOT and lower mileage. We still had the 820e Mk1 on the road too for a few months until I was made an offer I couldnt refuse!

I love my 820 Sterling Coupe. Best car I have ever Driven. Just changed the oil today and with a cleaned up throttle body, lubricated stepper motor pushrod, correctly gapped plugs etc its running really well.

I think the coupe chassis feels more rigid? my vitesse had a firmer ride but I'm sure that there was a bit of chassis flex in the saloons? any thoughts? :?:

Thanks Lord Sterling!

The first one was H???CEG, maybe 136? 198? 138? 936? 996? not completely sure, it was 9 years ago - doubt its still around though, based on it having corrosion repairs to the rear arches, 147k, 135 psi on cyl 3, a dodgy injector etc... Sold for £800 to a guy from Cirencester.

My Current one is staying with me for good!
