Fitted the Konis and Boge springs to rear of my fastback

Post by CHR15E » Mon Apr 13, 2009 8:45 pm

Bit of something different to working on the black one. Waiting on my brother to paint up the subframes for me so decided to play with the new Konis instead. :D

I've had a set of Boge lowering springs sat in the shed for about 3 years as well waiting to go on something.

Here's the old and new spring.
The one on the left is a Jamex spring that's been on the car for the last 18 months or more. The one one the right is a Boge one.

More obvious here to see the difference in height. The Boge spring is also quite a bit thicker. So sort evens out I reckon?

Here's a pic of one side fitted up.

The Konis are adjustable and not having set any up before I went for the middle ground thinking that would be a good start.

I guess it was but the suspension is too soft like that. Going to take the shocks back off tomorrow and stiffen them up.

Can I expect to see that much of a difference?

I had gas spax on a chevette many years ago and they were always too hard, even on the softest setting, on full hard they just didn't move, could drive round the outside of everybody on roundabouts though ! (in the dry)

Out of interest, do you really need grooved and drilled rear discs on an 800, aren't the rears severely over-braked as it is ?

Standard are normal vented disc's. As i found out when mine had drilled and grooved on front and back and the front ones where buckled from hard braking! I got told that flat disc's where standard.

If that makes sense lol

Well this is rolling how it's set up. I had Monroe shocks on before with the Jamex springs and that was better than how this is at the minute.

I'm going to set to the stiffest setting and then work back from there.

I had them offered at a good price a few years ago and eventually fitted them a few months ago.

Maybe it is overkill.

Tbh, as far as I'm concerned, there can never be 'overkill' when it comes to brakes. Anything that stops you better has got to be a good thing, is my take on it...

Quote agree, but I thought that there was an issue with drilled discs cracking?

What is the difference in drop with the new shocks and springs - or does it sit the same as standard shocks and the jamex?
Paul.

*nods*

That's the horror story I've heard too, so I won't be going with drilled or dimpled discs on mine. Grooved and vented, but not drilled.

None that I can tell. I was hoping it would drop a bit more TBH as the rear is stripped out and sits a bit high.

The fronts are only grooved. Figured the rears would be safe.

My Konis are on the hardest setting with Jamex springs, it certanly keeps you awake

Had Monroe Sensatrack on before but the front end was too floaty at speed in a straight line. Stays put now, nice and level.

Should think it will be nice and firm with yours being stripped out. Need to try it on the track.

Now he tells me.

Didn't get round to it today but I'll set them to hardest.

At the minute the ride is definitely softer and less crashy.

I have Koni's on the front already though I don't know what they're set at.

I'll get the new ones fitted soon hopefully, then strip the ones and check before they go on the Sterling.

Adjusted the shocks earlier and with a quick run out it seemed better.

I think the rear has sat a liitle lower now and brought the front up as a result.

I'm happy with the rear. Need to get the new ones on the front with the matching springs now.

Be a couple of weeks for that though as I want to fit a new rack and the polybushes at the same time.
