UK cars are identified by the last two letters of the prefix (UVO). 'VO' was used to identify cars registered in Nottinghamshire, up to October 1974, and cars registered in Nottingham (city) after Oct. 1974.
The end letter of your registration, 'L' means registration was between August 1st 1972 and July 31st 1973. The number before the 'L', 897 is quite a high number, so your car is most likely either a very late 1972 or very early 1973 registered one.

It's from May '73 which makes it one of the last 200 made. First owner was the commodore of the RAF and after a few months it moved to Poole/Dorset to some member of the Royal Family or was it the Royle Family?
After that the history is lost apart from that I'm the 11th owner and the car staying in Poole till I bought it.
Other nice fact is that it was one of around 70 factory two tone cars which was standard only on the coupes.
