Oh dear. But the bright side is that I can add bitumen insulation and everything gets a thorough wash!

That's a lot of progress Henrik!

Might be just as easy to remove the whole carpet and wash it off and let it dry. :D

Already Done that Dave. Ripped it out yesterday and made a loop in the waterway today. Did a testrun after refitting the drivers seat and everything works. I really do not (!) want to do the heater Matrix now but I really should as everything is out of the car. But last year I almost had a total standstill due to the gearbox swap so really just want to enjoy the car. Plus I prefer to put my last strenght on the black Vitesse as I really want that on the road!

Decisions, decisions Henrik! Hard to know what to suggest, after all you know what other jobs need doing and what the priorities are. Would be good if you can change the matrix sometime soon, especially as you've already got it pretty much stripped out but if it's not meant to be then so be it. :D
Cheers,
Dave

Its been a while with terrible weather again so everything came to a halt, but i just had some bitumen put into the cabin so at least some progress. Next step is to rip out the matrix. I hate the Idea of doing it but have come to the conclusion I must.

The future plan is to try to have a professional renovate the Matrix if possible in stead of swapping it from the donor car. The reason is a restored Matrix is something I can trust.

Slapped the interior back after adding a few square meters of bitumen insulation. Its going to be very interesting to see if the noise level has dropped!

When attacking the dash its merely a question of ripping the seats out which is a 2X5min job. Looks like next weekend for that one.

A few pics of when i added some sound-proofing to mine. The extra round the rear arches is definitely worthwhile, reduces a lot of road noise - also did the front arches although you can't see it in the pics. Makes a huge difference, like driving a different car! :D

Yes I got the Idea from your car Dave! I did the boot last summer and that made a huge difference so it was the obvious thing to do now as the carpets were out.

Took a short spin and even though the centre consol is missing its more quiet. Downside is that the hissing noise from the A-pillars above 70mph is a lot more noticable! :)

Now, my car has a Mongoose exhaust so the engine note is still there.

Im not sure how it looks under the dash but if the firewall has some bare metal i’ll Attack that too.

Also planning on cutting a piece of foam and fill the centre consol with that, especially around the gear lever. Its obvious that is a weak spot as a lot of noise comes through that way.

Didn't realise mine was the inspiration Henrik! There's not much space under the centre console so go easy on the foam!

The Mk1 firewall/bulkhead has foam on the engine side to reduce noise, this seems absent on Mk2 models, may be worth adding some there to see if that improves noise levels.

I've got a standard exhaust on mine, if i give it the beans i can hear it giving a nice, 90 degree V6 howl especially when the inlet tract changes length but otherwise it's more or less silent, just a bit of wind noise from around the door but i've got rid of most of that. Difficult on a Coupe to get rid of it though.
Cheers,
Dave

Both these pics are from late model 820s, can't find any pics of early MK2s to compare. I must have deleted them at some point

Henrik Chris' picture gives an excellent view of the 3 heater boxes from left to right, in your car they will be right to left.

Oh dear! No point of return.

And the crowbar was needed to get the airbag off as one of the torx heads were busted many years ago. The airbag never exploded so Im fine!
