Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Full blast on everything here working on all the cars at once. I even got one sold so there isn't any old Accord left in the fleet any longer! Very happy with that. The costs were too high on road tax, insurance and MOT for a car just standing still. That money is better used on the Rovers and Austins. Apparently the engine of the Accord is going into a Civic race car, the K24 is quite powerful, especially in a small body as the Civic. It will be nice to follow that progress.
After some additional test driving of the coupe it seems the feel of the engine mounts are better. Not sure if it's possible but they might have suffered from the standstill of two years. Anyway, it feels a lot better now. They will likely need changing but are down on the list.
While working I found a hole in the sill. It did come to me as a bit of surprise but its been cut out and a new piece of metal welded in place.
I need to work the brakes some and the bastard clutch slave cylinder needs bleeding too. The goal is to get it street legal again before Winter.
Good news: next year is the last year I need to pay road tax for it.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
The K24 is a popular swap into the Civic Henrik, makes a very rapid machine! Some people even turbo them as well!
From what i understand, the engine mounts are hydraulic so will move and support the engine while damping the movement. If my idea is correct, once they started moving again they would rebalance the pressures internally and give more support.
Have a look at my recent thread on bleeding the 800 brakes Henrik - i uncovered many clues to successful bleeding of them in other areas within the brake section in the WSM and applied them to find a one-shot and done method. Vast improvement!
Good work on welding that hole before it got worse, i assume you've given it plenty of cavity wax as well?

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
A bit of an update. I've had it to the MOT-station and it came back with faults regarding emission and a tie rod. I got a new lambda in last weekend and managed to find the time for the tie rod yesterday, so today I went back and it is now approved. Feels really great after 2 years in storage. Obviously winter is closing in but the MOT is good for 15months so next season is saved from day one. Hopefully we'll see some nice dry roads for a few weeks yet.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Thanks Dave! Yes it feels a lot better with it approved. Now I can do minor things and checking other joints etc. The drop links look like sh*t so they need to be swapped too. They are probably 10-12 years old Now and Probably some cheap aftermarket stuff as I got them from EBay back then.

Your drop links have done well to last that amount of time if they were cheap ebay jobbies! That said it's about all that's availble unless you make your own now!
Just realised my Sterling is nearly due for the MoT again soon, could be interesting!

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
A very small but important update on my coupe.
I had a few small Stone chips in my windscreen and decided to have them checked. Small yes but two of them had hairline cracks so I was getting nervous the screen might crack.
I went to my local car glass repairman and They could fix them. 30min and 200kr (£15-17) the chips are invisible so very glad with the result.
The last few weeks have been Austin-weeks but I do have a plan to get some small stuff done to my coupe now. I hope to find the time..!

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Finally found the time to change the droplinks. It’s so simple and takes so little time. I’m not sure why I haven’t done it until now.
They were badly worn so it feels good it’s done But unfortunately it didn’t solve my problem with the knocking when pushing away in first.
Pics show from bottom, one of the inserted bushes fell out. In the next pic it’s possible to see how badly distorted one of the bushes are making the bolts misalign.
New droplinks are of a good quality so hopefully they will serve a few years.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Excellent work Henrik, if it still clunks when pulling away, check the upper wishbones bushes/bearings and also the brake reaction bar bushes. Renewing the upper wishbone bushes cured an annoying clunk on pull-away on my Sterling and tightened the sttering/handling and made life much quieter too. Here's a thread on when i found a good solution to the upper wishbone bushes : viewtopic.php?f=9&t=14802
It doesn't take much play at all to cause an annoying clunk, in fact you might not even feel any play but it makes a lot of noise from near enough nothing in terms of play.

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
Thanks Dave, I’ll have a look at those upper links! Unfortunately I don’t have a socket deep enough for the brake reaction bar, That was my plan. I think They might be the wrong way around. Some fiddling to do…

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
If you think about how the upper links are mounted to the inner wings, it's almost as if it turns the inner wings into huge sounding boards so even a tiny knock sounds much worse than it is.
I have a selection of deep sockets, bought them as impact sockets, one at a time as i needed them and i know i have the right socket for the brake reaction bar nuts at the front but i can't recall the size - sorry, that's not much help!

Re: Manalishis 820 Vitesse Coupe
After a dreaded long winter I finally got the coupe out in the open.
As of this year it’s taxfree and only need an MOT every second year. Up for the test on friday.
