They are indeed 12V bulbs Henrik. If you look carefully at the bulb holders, you'll see the bulbs themselves are wire-ended and the wires are folded round the holder. I'm fairly sure they are 8mm diameter, please double check this as i've found some that are 5.5mm diameter :

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Sub-Miniatur ... 0808042128

You'd need the 14V version. Surprised to see the orange "condoms" on the bulbs though, fairly sure there is an orange filter behind the screen so they aren't really needed.
Cheers,
Dave

I added an extra pic.

Excellent link! I presume they would be availabe over here then in an electronics specialist dealer, going there later today. As per OM, I really would prefer bulbs instead of LEDs.

Förträfflig!

Or "excellent!" as we say here! :P (PS - i cheated and used Google translate so if it's wrong, blame Google!)

You have also reminded me of something though - self-adhesive burr walnut veneer. It's an idea i keep thinking about, dismantle the instrument cluster and add it to the front face. Fiddly to cut out but would be worth it in the end! I hope! :D

About the veneer for the cluster, I would also like those polished aluminium speedo rings I had on my 200 coupe. I think that looked really nice.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-200-Tu ... Sw-ddapsG4

By the way, its finished now! Every piece of interior back in. Now its just one thing left, to actually hook up the water again! Had a little help from my 15yo son.

Oh and yes, the dash decided to lift. No glue at home so need to sort that later.

One pic shows the boost controller and switch for illumination.

I've found a couple of bits of veneer for sale on fleabay, i'll have a proper look over the weekend. Never been too keen on those chrome rings myself, i can see the attraction but not really my cup of tea. If i had something like yours, i'd probably think differently, it's designed as more of a sports version so those rings would be more suited.

With the Sterling, it's more about wood, leather and comfort and having seen an original USA spec veneered instrument cluster - i want one! :P

Great news everything is back in yours and working, good to see you have apprenticed Manalishi Junior as your helper too! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Dave, have you got any pics of a Rover 800 with the wood veneer on the cluster face?

Today I'll try to get the water lines/pipes all connected. It would be a laugh if the new matrix would leak too. :D

I'll try to find the pics Henrik but it was on an ebay listing for a USA spec brochure.

You did test the matrix before fitting it, didn't you?

Dave

Yes by blowing through it, but to be fair that isnt much of a test. The breaker however is a member of the association and the state was markerad as ”A-class tested fully working” so I presume that is correct. :)

A better pic of the boost controller and extra switch:

That boost controller and switch looks pretty much factory Henrik!

I've had a look and can't find any current ebay listings for a USA spec brochure, i'll keep looking though.

Fingers crossed the matrix is good, don't forget the pipe containing the valve under the bonnet goes to the top matrix stub when reconnecting the pipework under the bonnet. :D

Today I finally got to fit the hoses for the heater matrix in the engine compartment. Then some anti freeze, a bit of bleeding and - all is well! No leaks!

I celebrated by driving the 80-100 miles to Gunnars barn where the spare car is to pick up the airbag and steering wheel, and some other bits and bobs.

The car is so much more quiet in speeds under 75mph. Under 50-55 its really quiet and could be compared to the Lexus which is ofcourse a very quiet car! Over 65-70 the wind starts to break through and at 75-80 its not very quiet any longer. The main problem is the engine note, with the big Bore exhaust its not easy to get tid of the humm.

I had forgotten how lovely this car is to drive on the motorway. The steering is so perfect. The balance. Such a fine motor it is! In this aspect it blows the Lexus away. The Rover tends to find the perfect track all the time and sometimes it feels like I dont have to hold the steering wheel. The Honda is a good road car but that is in another league.

Great news Henrik, well done!

The coupe is always a bit noisy from wind noise over 70 ish, it's down to the frameless windows i think. My saloon is still as quiet at err mph as it is at 70mph, possibly down to the extra noise insulation.

I've not driven a Lexus but been a passenger in one, from what i observed i have to agree with you about the 800 over and above the Lexus. Interesting point is that if it hadn't been for the launch of the Honda Legend and Rover 800 in 1986, Lexus might never have happened.
Cheers,
Dave

Might be worth looking into plasti-dipping to get trim "walnut veneered".
It's on my "to do list" for the new 800 Club but an outfit in Sweden would probably make more sense for you Henrik.

Yes the frameless windows are ’sexy’ but not very practical to be honest. I’ve Done some tweaking to the rubber trims so they are ’ok’. I made an interesting note today though, I was passed by another car on the motorway, I was at about 75-80 and he passed me and when he got in front of me, maybe 20m ahead the wind noise was lowered a lot! Maybe a small wind deflector would help! Havent considered this before but will look into something. But to be fair the coupe is at its best at 50-70. Its very stable indeed in higher speeds but its not quite right.

Our Lexus is a GS300 from -05. It is astonishingly quiet on the motorway. You can do 100-120mph all day if it was legal and possible. Fantastic car. But it obviously lacks the soul and blood of a R800 coupe!! :D

Oh I think you misinterpred. I’m not too keen on the wood cluster, that is Scooby-Dave. :D For me, I’m happy as it is, but I do think those chrome bezels are really good looking...

One tiny problem with a wind deflector on a coupe - nowhere to attach it to!
