This is amazing work! I can tell you appreciate the details. I'm attempting similar work in a Honda Legend of that era (Acura Legend, since I'm over in the colonies), swapping in all JDM Honda Legend bits like rear A/C, headlights, interior bits, and so forth.
Great job, I really enjoyed this project!

I have just discovered this fascinating thread!
So can I get this straight-if I wanted to fit an 827 engine and box into a very late car, an 820 would be the best rather than an 825-is that right? How much work do you think it would be to do the engine/box conversion alone? (I'm not bothered about all the other stuff-just the idea of a Honda engine in a late car!)
Thanks.

An 820 would mean a lot less work.
Fitting the engine etc wouldn't be that tricky, the worst job without swapping looms will be matching the wiring up.

Your car at the end of the day.
I like the stealth look myself. At the end of the day who but someone into 800s would know anyway?
Keep them guessing and thinking what the F&*K is far more fun I reckon?

Paul,
Excellent work. I have just cleared the garage by sending the current classic car restoration off for paint so thought Id look at converting my broken 825 KV6 auto fastback into an mk2 827 Honda powered machine. As well as the KV6 I have 2 other running mk2 827s but one is very rusty (and used as a van by my dad at the moment!) so this will be used to do the conversion whilst I use the remaining car for work. Both the KV6 and donor car are fastbacks and both autos. I have a couple if initial questions though:-
1. Did you use the existing KV6 subframe and fit the 2.7 engine and box to that, or did you transplant the 827 frame, complete with box, uprights etc?
2. Did you keep the KV6 steering rack and column or change that to the Honda version?
3. Is it necessary to unpick the wiring harness to get it through the bulkhead into the engine bay, or does it come to pieces easily enough?
4. Are most of the mounting lugs/bolts/nuts on the bulkhead suitable for 827 purposes as I note you had to chop a few off?
I’m sure they’ll be others things……
Nick

Crikey! You don't do things by halves do you? Not content with endowing a post 96 car with a reliable V6 you fit the better goodies from the models lifetime as well (6 dial dash, VCM etc) and then badge it to confound the uninitiated! Nice one!
Been after a post 96 coupe bodyshell to do a similar project with but no luck so far, though i nearly had one about a year ago. Have to admit i probably wouldn't go as far as fitting the 6 dial dash and VCM but each to their own.
I have one question the same as Nick - is it easier to unbolt the 827 subframe complete with engine/box and then bolt it into the 825 front end or to swap the engine/box onto the 825 subframe?

Sound advice this bit "You may know the score on the 800 what looks the same but when it comes to fitting it will not... " as i'm sure a lot of us have learnt one way or another!
I suspected the rack and column from the 827 would need to be used and the ABS system as the late 825 used different components in a lot of areas of the car to what had been previously used - nice to have it confirmed though! Also if i remember rightly the 827 engine ECU takes signals from something on the PAS system to make sure the engine revs don't drop off too much when full lock is applied at idle or very low speed - likewise with the air con.
Had wondered a fair bit about the fuel system too and had come to the conclusion the easiest/safest method would be to transfer the whole lot from the 827 to the 825, if and when i get round to doing it.
I think you have become a font of knowledge on this conversion, great that not only have you done it but also that you've kept the photo record too.

Your photo record may not be great but it's 100% more than anyone else has got!
Pretty sure you're right about the engine picking up to cover loads etc, i think it was probably Hondas ever-efficient engineers building in safeguards to make sure it didn't stall - if one part didn't pick up the other part would if that makes sense?
Can't remember why i thought it would be better to swap the whole fuel system, might have been something to do with the fuel pump pressure or flow or some such or maybe just from the point of view of knowing it had worked in an 827 so should work when swapped.
Reckon i'd best start saving/looking for a suitable coupe and donor 827 and extend my hardstanding!
