Surprisingly my brother has an early MK2 backbox on his 820.

He just fitted a smaller bolt in one of the holes and it lined up.

The box came off my old 1991 mk1 820, a similar age to the Sterling. The flange was a very different shape - both were triangular but the 820 one had all 3 sides the same length and the 827 one had one side shorter than the others and was orientated differently (I think). It's all sorted now, though.

If I keep it, I'll see if the band new mk2 820 one that I have in store will fit.

No it didn't - and neither does the Sterling.

Not a factor on your Sterling at that age. Earlier ones were different.

According to the Unipart list MK1 820s had a different backbox depending whether it had a cat or not. Odd.

Wouldn't it just have been so much easier to have just one, standardised exhaust system for ALL models? Jaguar did it with the XJ40 (apart from the front pipes which are different for cat/non-cat cars).

It's just been down for an MOT and passed first time with no advisories. Not bad when you consider that it's been standing almost 10 months.

I reckon that I'll end up selling both 800s and keeping the Jag and the cabrio. The cabrio will definitely be staying (I would lose a couple of very precious body parts if I tried to sell it!) and the Jag is, quite honestly, my dream car.

This forum will then be renamed "JaguarXJ40-and-Rover800.info"

No way - I'm staying put. The Jag fora are pretty dull compared to this place. In fact, make that VERY dull.

They never have any proper thread drift.
