Hi folks,

As you all may or may not know.

I am now the owner of Flinty's 820Si Fastback in british racing green

We had to get another car after the previous one as I introduced it to a tree thanks to diesel

Without further ado;

Watch this space for the usual Ćosić family Fluids and Filters service

One front damper full of air - Apologies for the "Oh Matron!" look on my face but i couldn't surpress a smirk

http://youtu.be/LsANzDClmLQ

And one VERY shagged rear damper, no damping left whatsoever!

A whole lot more to come!

Amazing the difference new shocks make, especially on the rear.

Never a good feeling when the rear doesn't feel like it's connected to the front.

Update so far;

At some point in the car's past it has had;

Bonnet
Bumpers Front and Rear
All 4 arches
Rear left hand quater panel

All sprayed for varying reasons.

The colour match is exccelent however the prep work was very, Very poor.

As i'm typing this Dad is busy detailing the whole car!

Car was jetted down, underneath all the arches, under-bonnet, and underside was all jetted thouroughly.

Then work begins!

Image

First on the list of jobs - brakes

Image
Image

All well worn, handbrake cable over-tightened.

Image
Image

Next job - Dampers
All 4 were completely shagged, one rear one had no damping left whatsoever (see above video)

Front strut removed
Image

New damper and brake disc
Image

Repeat 3 more times for all corners.

The front brake calipers came off the car, the rears were rescued from NOJ

All were dunked in Dad's magic electrocleaning bath and lightly wire brushed and painted "Silver-Grey"

Image
Image

Looks nice and smart without being obvious
Image
Image

The brakes were bled with a combination of vacumn and good old fashioned up-down up-down.

For vacumn bleeding we used the car's engine as a vacumn pump
Image
Unplug the vacumn hose to heater matrix, fit the vacumn bleeder to it.

Here's our pukker vacumn bleeder
Image
Image

LHS pipe to nipple, RHS pipe to intake manifold.

In the mean time, between letting coats of caliper paint dry in Mums Oven (Sshhhh! )

I fitted the high-power headlight kit from NOJ to this one

As well as touched up two arches.

All of this nessecitated a wee bit of dismantling!

Image
Image

Then a full fluids and filters service, oil, oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, flushed and replaced coolant with OAT.

Then it was onto the interior.

You can just about see some green paint OVERSPRAY on the rear seat squab. (Not mine! )
Image
Image

The two bolsters, cleaned one on the left incase you can't spot it!
Image

Most of the rear of the car was covered in Dog hair, bit of a pain to remove that stuff!

The officially Geeked-Out interior

Cassette tape holder viciously persuaded with the aid of a Dremel to make a useful cubby hole.
Image

Oh, and a game for all you Fastback owners...
Guess the size of my rear wiper

Image

Clue?
Image

How about a 28" er
Image

Standard is a 19" blade, but it leaves about 6" unwiped at the top of the rear screen. So I measured and found a 29" blade would be the biggest I could fit, but Halfords only go up to a 28" blade.

Another option is a 19" blade with an offset mount, but they don't seem to exist with the correct fixings to fit the wiper arm. Someone please correct me if im wrong?

Stay tuned for the results of Dad's mammoth detailing session!

The the usual Cosic fluids and filter service

Indeed I have, works a treat and you can see so much more. Havn't tried it at motorway speeds though, it may lift off I'm not sure :?

I almost always fit longer front blades to most cars - the bigger swept area is handy.

Did you get the silver Sterling towed back so you could get parts from it?

Looking better already, so far so good!

Nope, I stripped all that I could carry on a 2 bikes, panniers, and a pair of rucksacks. My housemate helped me out.

It had to be moved from it's resting place by the next morning and I had no choice which scrapyard it went to as I didn't have the V5 on me at the time. It's long gone...

So far so good on the new one, a few little niggles that need sorting but at least its safe to drive and will last me till summer - then I can get the fun/interesting stuff done!
