I can see the logic in the extra stiffness being derived from filling the aperture in the subframe Dusan. I recently had to renew the ARB drop-links on the UAV (again!!! ) because the new ones i fitted about 6 months ago failed.

The rubbers were shredded but the worst bit was the metal sleeve in the centre of the bush. Instead of having parallel sides to fit the bolt through, they were narrow in the middle and wide at the ends. Great for fitting, made life very easy but lousy on the road -a too much movement the wrong way!

At some points it actually sounded like either the suspension strut was about to fall off or perhaps the wheel. Changed for a much better set and problem solved.

Might get a set of the Superflex 600 bushes to try at some point - thanks for the heads-up on that!

Congrats on the MoT, bad news on the screen (advisory?) but if you're able to wait, give it a while until the current rash of roadworks is finished - last thing you want is a stone chip in your new screen! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Had a massive spider web of cracks on mine due the bad loading of some long lengths of timber by yours truley.
Still passed Mot though cos it was passenger side regardless of size.

Mark827 did something similar years back with a worktop he told me. :D

My most stupid moment was letting a wiper arm slip out my hand while changing a blade. The force it hit the screen with very quickly wrecked it.

6 months later while the same car was parked up someone had thrown something at it and broke the new screen.

TheOldMan did the worktop trick too....

Mine was a batch of 22mm copper pipe all strapped together, hadn't moved the whole journey and then one idiot makes me tap the brakes sharper than I like and "Plink"

Cue many short anglo saxon words and debating on whether I chase the muppet down and force him to cough up for my new screen - thankfully I saw sense and drove on!

It's the only advisory on the ticket so I'll live with it for now and at some point - either when it gets bigger or I get another chip will I change the screen. Got to remember this is my daily driver not a Sunday/Summer car!

So a small update.
As well as managing to blow up my Vitesse I now have killed the diff bearings in my 820

Usually it's the Vitesses that eat diff bearings but this time it's the 820's turn.

I have a KV6 Torsen equipped manual in the shed already.
I have just won a 620 diesel gearbox on eBay for £50.

Plan is to place the 820 into early retirement for the summer and do my long promised engine and gearbox swap.

That consists of:

42k mile T16 long block I have spare - fully rebuild the head, port match the intake and exhaust ports/manifolds.
Diesel/KV6 hybrid 'box
Maybe treat it to a new LPG front end kit as the one on the car is on its last legs.

The only bit I'm missing for my plan is a NASP T16 exhaust manifold to play with.
Oh, and some 8mm copper pipe

Sure we can find some 8mm cipper pope and a T16 NASP fanimold.

Also had a barnstoruntm concerning keeping the LPG injecotrs cool under liquid phose injection - basically means copper linke popre between injector solenoids and the spuds in a pre-drilled piece of cipper pupe carrying engine coolant to pervent ferszing of the jectors.
Bogger, my tpoing has gone to rat shut!

I blame the co-op asnd their 14% Cabernet Sauvingongon red wone and the hekend form well! :D

Jesus Dave, did Sasha slobber all over your keyboard? :-D

I was thinking of wrapping the intake manifold in coils of 8mm copper pipe to make an "Old-Skool" heated intake manifold.

But that's a thought experiment for another day.

Not quite Dusan, more like the quantity of 14% wine i ingested before typing that post!

If you can decipher my gibberish it actually makes sense - drill holes in some 15mm pipe and feed the injector feed pipes through, solder in place to make it water-tight and use that to prevent the injector nozzles/spuds freezing up. I suspect the manifold itself will stay reasonably warm due to the turbo.

Sasha has managed to hit the keyboard a few times with her paws and/or slobbered it but so far i've only had to explain one "accidental" purchase of a "BIN" on fleabay!  :D

Dave

I like the idea of water jacketing the injector spuds - very neat idea!

Manifold will be warm enough and the TB is far enough away from the injectors for me not to be concerned about the throttle icing up.

I LOVE the fact you had a genuine "My dog hit the BIN not me" moment :-D

Thanks - thought that would appeal to the "Engineering in a finer form" part of you!

I still don't know how she managed it, obviously accessed some keyboard shortcut previously unknown! Luckily it only got as far as "Commit to buy" on fleabay so i didn't have to explain the full details!  :D

Wee update.

As you may or may not be aware I lunched the Diff bearings on my 820.

I had in my garage a KV6 PG1 'box (hen's dentists I know! Thanks Dave!)

I bought a PG1 diesel 'box off eBay.

Thus a one of a kind CS6DTUTH is born!

Diesel on the left, KV6 on the right.

Image

Image

5th is the pair on the far right hand side.

Image

Purchased an entire gearbox for these two!

Image

I had a bit of a shock dismantling the KV6 'box. The cirlip that holds the layshaft in place (controls endfloat) was broken into many pieces and was just sitting on top of the bearing!

Image

Image

After rescuing the (intact) circlip from the diesel box, fitting it into the KV6 'box I managed to successfully marry the two halves of the casing and get all 6 gears too! The replacement circlip fitted perfectly and snapped in beautifully.

Image

Pressure washed, wire brushed, pressure washed again. left to dry

Then I found some alloy wheel paint I forgot I had...

Image

Hmm, it looked like it was missing something - then I twigged what it was!

Image

Image

"Freshly Rebuilt!"

I also got my 12v -> 240v trolley built at long last so I finally have 240V mains in my garage! 8)

Tomorrow I plan on swapping 'boxes if the weather holds out on me.

Is there a Torsen in the KV6 box? The code says there should be.

There certainly is Tom - uninterrupted view from one side of the box to the other through the diff!

It was standard fit on KV6 800 manuals from what i can work out.
