Rover 827 Crank position sensor fitting

Post by jedidan75 » Mon Apr 02, 2012 1:22 pm

Hello all!

I managed to find the crank sensor for my coupe, has anyone fitted one? Any idea if this is a DIY job or best left to the garage?

Muchos gracias people.

Dan

Dug out the Haynes Manual, 4 spanner job, which is probably a bit out of my current comfort zone, as I don't want to be messing with the timing belt!

Garage for this one!

Hopefully this'll sort the drive!

Can I ask you where you found a sensor so quickly? Or is Honda now in possesion of your right arm?
Might be worth asking the question of previous owners on here if the cambelt has ever been done, or are you just fitting new anyway?

With all the work involved to remove it, I can't see any reason not to fit a new belt tbh. And a water pump as well. Do it once, do it properly, enjoy the car with peace of mind 8)

Happy to say the belt was done just last year! Unless I was sure of that, I'd have it done straight away! My first 825 mk1 died that unfortunate death!

I got the sensor by putting a part request on 247spares.co.uk. Had a reply and quote in about half an hour, the part is checked and working, and has a 90 day guarantee. £48 all in, compared to a few hundred new!

Had some advice from John W to resolder fuse box wiring and check wiring to the sensor, so will be doing that as well.

Will be taking the blue neon lights off too... :|

Getting sensor done in the garage though, bit too involved for me, but the guy doing it I've gotten to know, and I'll be watching/helping him do the work! Good bloke!

Hoping for a sweet drive when it's done!

Thought you should be aware that it is NOT necessary to remove the belt completely, and the job can be done fairly easily by a skilled mechanic.

I've got a full engine and box sat in a container at work that I have to skip at some point, must remember to test and remove the crank sensor before it goes if they're worth money !
