Re: NEC 2013 (PICTURE HEAVY)
In my case, Thursday afternoon was spent cleaning and polishing once we had the cars set up on the stand.

You certainly made a nice job of it Simon! If you'd ever like a gold coupe to practice on, just let me know.....
What product did you use on the bumpers to get the black nice and shiny?

Re: NEC 2013 (PICTURE HEAVY)
The roads were a bit damp and I caught a bit of brown spray but it soon wiped away.
As I pulled up to the hall doors at the NEC it started raining, so I was lucky.
I did take the washing kit with me though just in case.

Actually Jon let me use something from his array of cleaning products, so I am not sure!scoobyh123 wrote:You certainly made a nice job of it Simon! If you'd ever like a gold coupe to practice on, just let me know.....

ArmorAll protectant spray (gloss), or Autoglym bumper & trim gel.
The gel is good if the plastic is in poor condition.

That was why i asked the question. As i was round those parts that day my coupe ended up pretty dirty after and all the cars there are looking as if they had just been cleaned, never mind driven through the airborne muck that i encountered!
Thanks Simon and Jon for answers to the same question, Looks like i'll need the AutoGlym gel then Jon on mine - not that mine are particularly poor condition, just i don't think they've seen that kind of treatment in a long time so will probably need more of a revival than most!
Either that or i'll have to invest in some sort of polishing machinery!

Re: NEC 2013 (PICTURE HEAVY)
I was very fortunate that the drive from Devon to Birmingham was in the dry. I timed it so well thst by the time I arrived on the Wednesday night at the hotel it only started raining once the car was tucked away in the hotel car park.
The drive to the NEC was a bit damp but as the others said a quick polish in the afternoon once the stsnd was set up soon sorted it....

You were lucky Alex - your car could have been in a right state if it had been wet all the way up from Devon!

As mine was when I arrived from Doncaster through a downpour, two hours cleaning and polishing later all was well.............scoobyh123 wrote:your car could have been in a right state if it had been wet all the way up from Devon!

Re: NEC 2013 (PICTURE HEAVY)
Although everyone likes to shine up the black parts on their cars, they were in fact painted in semi gloss black paint to a 40% gloss level. Bumpers and side moulding along with cladding would have been rejected if the gloss level rose above 45%. So if you want your car to look factory spec then polishing them is not the correct course of action. Of course as with all things it is a matter of personal preference.scoobyh123 wrote:You certainly made a nice job of it Simon! If you'd ever like a gold coupe to practice on, just let me know.....

Re: NEC 2013 (PICTURE HEAVY)
Good point Steve! I forgot about that! I just want to make sure mine are black so i might stick with what i've used so far, something called "Black Pack" - £2 for a large aerosol from the local factory shop. First use it makes them a bit shinier, then it just seems to stay clean when rubbed over with a micro-fibre cloth.
Tricky to see in this shot but the only one i've got of where it's been freshly used :
Needless to say, i hadn't used it on the bumpers, just the black trim round/near the lights. Then again, with modified rear lights perhaps shinier would be allowed :
Only the left done there, just sidelights on. I keep threatening to do the coupe rear lights the same but not got round to it yet.

Re: NEC 2013 (PICTURE HEAVY)
Thanks Jon - enjoyed those! Some lovely cars there, particularly liked the facelift XJS in Police livery, never knew they used them in the Police.
That Bugatti (? - second to last pic) looks like it's moving even though it's obviously stationary!
There's also a few "ripe for restoration", i wonder if the owners will preserve them exactly as they currently are or restore them to a high standard?

The Austin probably looks better in the photo ! it's well rusty, would keep someone busy for a while putting it back in shape.scoobyh123 wrote: There's also a few "ripe for restoration", i wonder if the owners will preserve them exactly as they currently are or restore them to a high standard?
