What is your latest purchase?
This thread appears not exist so I start it. The subject is to post whatever you want as long as you tell us about your latest purchase. It can be parts for your Rover or something else. Toys prefered!

Seeing as I'm Roverless it'll have to be a toy, quite literally.
I bought this last Sunday. I bought a pool table a while back fancied one of these too. And no I don't have kids.

Just slightly mate, still not 100% yet. Though I did extend it earlier this year too.
I've had enough of cars for a bit so entertainling myself with other stuff these days.

I decided to buy a Christmas present for myself. Excellent stuff these dolly carts. It's so easy to move the car around in the garage now!

Re: What is your latest purchase?
Well i have 2 recent purchases, both of which come under my "Vanity Tools" classification - tools i have because they are needed once in a while and when they are needed are a god-send although unlikely to pay for themselves anytime soon but when they just sit there gathering dust have bragging rights attached because "i've got a tool that will do that". Hence the "Vanity Tools" description - nowt to do with pedicures, spray tans and all that malarkey!
The first is my xmas present to myself :
Bought from Amazon, it's an angle grinder stand that turns a humble angle grinder into a mini-chop saw. Not used it yet, been too busy with xmas and it's been too cold to play in an unheated, uninsulated shed!
The second is one i bought from ebay. Been after one for a long time but finding the right size item at the right price, without travelling too far etc etc has been tricky then it came up on ebay :
So it's missing the thread cutting gears and a couple of guards etc but is otherwise complete and working. As i don't plan on thread cutting the missing gears aren't too much of a problem although i would like the auto-feed for the slide but hey-ho, i can live without it until such times as the right bits turn up.
Now i just need a second shed to put all the stuff i currently store in my main (only!) current shed in so i can actually get in and move around to do things in the shed!
I already have a list of projects for the lathe so i suspect it will become more than a Vanity Tool in fairly short order and work its way up the rank to a "Workshop Essential" eventually!

Re: What is your latest purchase?
Went to Halfrauds for the "Deal of the day" which was the 120 piece socket set for 60.00
They sold the last one via the online sales thing, as the guy I was dealing with was looking for it.
So they let me have the 150 piece for the same price!

Re: What is your latest purchase?
Excellent result Mal, well done! Halfrauds are now listing it at £100 for the 150 piece set (was it that when you got yours for £60?) which is half price so you got it for something like 70% off the normal price!

It was originally 200.00 down to 100.00, but I got it for 60.00

Re: What is your latest purchase?
I've had this set for about 5 year now, been used a lot over the years, including jobs where bolts were so stiff they required a lead pipe over the ratchet and me jumping on it (naimly the 800's hub nuts), it's never let me down and has many years use left in it... I'm not much of a fan of halfrauds, but their advanced/professional range of tools are well worth it.MG Mal wrote:Went to Halfrauds for the "Deal of the day" which was the 120 piece socket set for 60.00

Anyhow, my latest purchase was a bundle of wood from B&Q as a year after the chimney callapsing and being re-built I finally decided to rip out the lovely 80's gas fire and back boiler that thankfully got killed in the storm.
Then I snapped some of the sticks and hit some metal things into it and this appeared:
Just got to re-fit the skirting board, repair the plaster I knocked off the wall as the back boiler came free and I suddenly realised how heavy it was, paint or stain the wood, tile the inside... One thing a year though, don't wan't to overdo it. If I do house maintenance too quickly the other half will appear with a list
On a more car related note (not Rover, they're for the Honda), I got a set of drilled grooved discs all round as well as new pads and a litre of dot5, I've fitted them to the boot for now, but once they're fitted to the wheels the Honda will no doubt have a face print on the windscreen!

Re: What is your latest purchase?
Dave - The grinder stand looks handy. I'm fortunate enough to have a full size chop saw. Very handy for straight cuts and multiple cuts especially on thicker steel.
My dad always wanted a lathe. Not sure I'd get the use of one now.
However much space you have it's never enough.
Mal - That's a lot of tools for the money, a decent set to keep in a car maybe? I can't help but be picky with stuff like that, same for sets of sockets. In the cheaper sets they always miss out a few. It looks like the 200 piece set is the one to have?
Though obviously a lot more money. Personally my sets have been bought individually and that way I can choose the most comprehensive of each size/depth.
Nice as a backup of for a car though.

Re: What is your latest purchase?
Chris - I have the 200 piece set in the Landy.
It go's into whichever motor I am currently using as a daily / long distance motor.
This one will go into the other half's 90, so that I know there will always be tool's available if I have to go and rescue her!.
I have a "cased" jack in each and a 1/2" drive 1m straight bar in hers, and a 1" drive set up in my 130 as well.
Having a cased set like this means we can just swop it into whichever motor we are out in, and know we have pretty much any eventuality covered.
(Now if they did a set that is a mix of all the best bits from the 200 piece set, and this 150 piece set, it would be perfect!)
