I looked if there was such a topic on the forum, but couldn't find any, so I'm creating this post to identify our Rover 800 key ring.

This is my Rover 800 key ring, and I'm pretty sure it's the key ring that came with the car new.

Note : My infrared door opening system works from time to time depending on how I manage to press on it !!!

That leather doesn't look 33 years old! Looks like a copy of some of the original Rover key fobs, i might be wrong and it is original but i'd be very surprised!

As for the remote fob, the range isn't that great to start with (3m tops really) and new batteries always help, as would pulling the fob apart and giving it a gentle clean. New buttons often help as well, the silicone rubber the original buttons are made from wears out and goes soft with time.

I used two 10mm blind grommets to replace mine with, fitted a small disc ~3mm thick on the centre of the inside of the grommets to act as a distance piece and that worked well. I have though fitted an aftermarket RF alarm/immobiliser with central locking interface and boot release (still got to wire the boot release up) so i now have increased range and the indicators flash on arm/disarm as well.

I think that it is the original one, because the car was used only during the first 10 years with nearly 10000 km / years (6200 miles/year) and restarted only 5 years ago, but pearheps not ?,

If we could have picture of your key rings, we could pearheps have a better idea and I'll we be happy to discover the different Rover 800 key ring...

Thanks Dave for what you did on your remote, I'll do it (I had already changed the battery)

Forgot to mention, i don't have a key fob/key ring on my car keys, i have 3 basic key rings with a clip that goes on my belt loop on the main one which also has my house keys then a joiner on that key ring a bit like the "Hozelock" garden hose joiners (but much smaller) that i can lock one of the other key rings on.
That way i just get the right car keys, connect them to the house keys and job done.

I remember those key rings on my Dad’s Rovers whilst he worked at Trident Garages. I suggest it is original.

It looks too nice to have been in and out of someones pockets, chucked on the table/desk/bar etc for 30+ years Simon - like i said i might be wrong and it is original, who knows for sure?

I called the last owner who is the grandson of the first owner of the car and I didn't say it before but he was the one who sold the car new to his grandfather because he was a comercial at Rover. He therefore confirms to me that this is the original key ring of the car.

But the first objectif of this post was to discover all your Rover 800 Key ring, so please shared with us your Rover key ring...

I think this is the keyring fob from my original Vitesse, replacing an identical but broken one that came with my current car.

OK, I'll play.

Firstly something many will be familiar with

Image

and contents

Image

These are the genuine 1996 BMW facelift launch promotional fobs with what has to be the best phone number of all time (UK at least), which was 0800 820 825. Brilliant!

And I use another one for the Sterling

Image

and for my other key

Image

The Vitesse is not quite as posh

And my spare

I will be getting a radio fob like the Sterling's above in due course but they are not cheap and having just been made redundant, I may wait. Hopefully Ian will still be in business.

Thank you very much for the pictures of your very beautiful key rings

In France you could have the same free number (all numbers starting with 0800 in France are free numbers) and I looked at which is 0800 820 825, and that is the phone number for a rental forklift at Nice :( .I tried with the best number which is 0800 820 827  and I can't find anything ...
