That could be why then Richard, perhaps different storage arrangements of the unpainted metal panels? I know the 81-on seemed better built, more attention to detail so-to-speak.Richard Moss wrote: ↑Mon Dec 07, 2020 5:39 pmWhen did production move from Solihull to Cowley?scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sun Nov 01, 2020 10:34 amGreat work there Marc! Surprisingly rust-free for an SD1 although i think the 1980/81 onwards models had better corrosion protection.

My Uncle Les who worked there at the time swore that Cowley made the best cars in the whole of BL. I tend to agree

The road is 70 kms/h but at the lights it is 50. I drove 60 at the lights. After correction its 57 kms so 7 kms/h over limit ticket.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sat Dec 12, 2020 1:04 amOops! What was the limit and how fast were you going Marc?

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Is that a general law in the Netherlands Marc? All traffic lights have a 50kmh speed limit?
Doing the conversions to mph, 60kmh is 36mph and even in a 30mph limit, they don't usually prosecute here until you're doing at least 36mph so you would have got away with that here!
Generally the way they work it here is they take the posted speed limit, add 10% then add 1mph if it's an odd figure or 2mph if it's even so 70mph limit would take it to 78mph, a 60mph would be 68mph and those are the points they prosecute at.
The 30mph limit is the "odd one out" because adding 10% makes 33mph so they add 1mph to make it even but that's 34mph and too close to guarantee a conviction of speeding so they add another 2mph so it becomes 36mph to make sure things like speedo error or an anomaly in the detection kit can't be blamed.
Applying the same theory to the 50kmh limit across the lights would give you 56kmh before prosecution so on that basis you would still have been caught.
Either way it sounds like you weren't deliberately speeding, just a slight misjudgement of your speed and i hope the fine wasn't too high!

Beautiful pictures of your Rover SD1 !!!
Is there is a lot of speed radar on the traffic lights in the Netherlands?
For the moment in France we have some radar on few traffic lights but not for the speed, only if you passed at the red.
For the rules in France, it is more easy than in the UK.
If the speed is under 100 km/h, they minus the speed by 5 km/h. You drive at 60 km/h for 50 km/h, they will take 55 km/h.
If the speed is more than 100 km/h, they minus 5% of the speed round the km/h upper. You drive at 145 km/h for 130 Km/h, they will take 137 km/h (145 - 7.25 round 8 = 137)
The sanctions are :
- If you are less than 20 km/h upper the speed limit it is 135 € if the speed limit is 50 km/h or less and 68 € if the speed limit is upper 50 km/h and 1 point on 12 on the licence (For french driving licence of course) If you pay in 15 days it is only 90 € (For <= 50 km/h) or 45 € (> 50 km/h).
- If you are >= 20 km/h and < 30 km/h it is 135 € (Or 90 € if you pay in 15 days) and 2 points on the driving licence
- If you are >= 30 km/h and < 40 km/h it is 135 € (Or 90 € if you pay in 15 days) and 3 points on the driving licence and you could have a retirement of you licence for maximum 3 years
- If you are >= 40 km/h and < 50 km/h it is 135 € (Or 90 € if you pay in 15 days) and 4 points on the driving licence and you could have a retirement of you licence for maximum 3 years. The police can keep immediately your licence for 72h
- If you are >= 50 km/h you will have a judgement. it is maximum 1500 € and 6 points on the driving licence and you will have a retirement of you licence for maximum 3 years. The Police can keep (will keep) you driving licence and can keep your car
- For the foreigners is easier
If you are less than 40 km/h it is 135 € with no minoration and you have to pay immediately
If you are >= 40 km/h and <50 km/h it is 135 € and they could keep your driving licence
If you are >= 50 km/h you will have a judgement, they will keep your driving licence and they could keep your car
Keeping by the police the car for a french or a foreigner is not really legal and you can contest but with a good lawyer

Hi Dave, no it is not always. But in build up areas it is more common. Ah oke. Never knew that about the UK. Thanks.
Hi Lodein, thanks for that big explanation! Quite complex how all the countries have different numbers and ways...
Holland if you drive on highway 30 kms over limit you have a registration behind your name for several years. If you drive 50 kms over limit they take your lisence and if you drive 70 over limit they take your car as well.
Build up areas rules are more stricked. Tickets are more expensive etc.

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Much more civilised here... the majority of dual carriageway roads have a 120kmh limit, motorway grade roads have 140kmh apart from one stretch between Al Ain and Abu Dhabi where it is 160kmh (100mph).
All are strictly enforce by cameras, though, and in fog they drop it to a blanket 80kmh, with the cameras being reset

Sounds better indeed Richard.
Oh, i forgot to mention that the national speed limit is dropped to 100 kph. The state spend billions on hour motorways that are a tool to make money (time is money) and increase the speed limit to 130 kph but then the green church decided, with no well founded reason, that we should all drive slower.

Your cover is nice.
I have one for my Daimler, but as it need a car clean, and as I drive it regularly with no wash at each time, I don't put it
