Another couple of jobs done on my SD1. I noticed that some impact strips on the left side of the car were loose. Only the one on the left wing and left rear door. All the others were still well sticked on so left them alone.
Adhesive primer:
And stick away:
Another job was to remove the rust of the foundation of the door mirrors.

Zinc coating:

Satin Black:

After this dryed, i applied clear rust preventive wax:
After all this i made a new seal:
After this everything was fitted together again but those pictures will follow next time!

Terrific work there as always Marc! Reminds me, i must get round to doing the black bits on my Sterling doors, had a few jobs to do on the Volvo recently so the Sterling has been used and left although it gained a new, modern (but slightly retro-looking) BlueTooth CD/Radio that plays USB sticks and streams music and other audio including phone calls and GPS instructions from my phone.
The Volvo gained similar but secondhand.
Besides, many places are still on lockdown here so getting the paint (and the weather to do it!) has been tricky!

Thank you Dave! I do my best every time.
Like me, you are also always busy on improving your cars. Rome was not build in one day
Sounds good the more modern radio! Nice work too. Ah oke in Holland most of the shops are open.

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
I've been busy on the Volvo (again!) today, adding in the hands free microphone to the head unit and also footwell lights and mounting the cruise control servo.
Here's a pic of the new stereo in the Sterling :
Next job on the Sterling will be upgraded rear speakers and a layer of soundproofing on the parcel shelf to help damp out vibrations from it.
As you say, always something to do!

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Another bit of TLC to my SD1.
I did some cosmetic (mostly technical jobs) to the engine compartment in the past but it never looked the part if you asked me. Now it did it a bit more thoroughly.
First i started to remove some items:
Cleaned the exhaust manifolds with wire brush:
On the first picture you noticed that i removed the grids below the front windscreen. This is because i cleaned them, painted them silver (heat resistant) and finished it all with some clear coat:
Painting Exhaust manifolds:
After this i cleaned the valve covers and carburetors with WD40 and a scouring pad. The silver air inlets were brushed with wire brushes to revive them. After this i washed the engine bay again, spray waxed steel, treated the plastics and rubbers with preserving agent. If you compare the engine bay to a picture of a few years ago, i think it looked much better!

Another job well done!

Very nice Marc! Good idea on the meshes on the air intakes for the heater, i could never get mine to stay clean so gave up in the end, just kept them clear of leaves etc.

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Another nice little job done on my SD1 Rover.
When i bought the car in 2016 it was all complete exept for the front fog lights. THe friend/garage holder i bought it from at first was planning to dismantle the Vanden Plas before he found out it was a very sollid car and he found a enthusiast to buy it. Because i first had some other jobs that i wanted to do on this red British barge it was not a priority. However, i never liked the gaps. My father called the other day and said he also hated the fact that the front fog lights were absent after looking at forums and pictures. My parents wanted to give me a present and this was the only thing i realy wanted. So the search began for decent ones. Hard to find so i bought new/old stock ones from Damen en Kroes in Boxtel. Because they were quite expensive i decided to pay at least the half of the costs. It would be rude not to haha. A joint venture to give it a name haha.
Before:
The new lights:
The car should have to femaile plugs on each side and the lights two male plugs each. The wiring was still in the car so i only needed to guide them down to the spoiler:
On the right side all was present so it was a case of plug and play:
I lowered the front spoiler so that i could reach the wire. After the wires were needly put away i fastend the spoiler of course.
On the left of the Rover there was one male plug because the black sock was gone. I removed the male plug and installed a femaile plug. After this, i isolated it all:
Tinkering:
Job done:
Looks so much better! I am happy!

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Great work as always Marc and a vast improvement.................................. BUT!!!!!
Please, please, please! Remove them!
Once they're out, strip them down and coat all the surfaces likely to rust in something that will protect them! I know you have your favourite produts for that so i'm not even going to suggest one but just make sure that everything is protected (except obviously the front of the reflectors, that would be silly as then they wouldn't work! ) because those fog lamps have a reputation for rusting to oblivion as soon as they smell water!
Once you've protected them (a clear lacquer might be an idea, wouldn't alter the colours or chrome then) please rrefit them as the car doesn't look right without them!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for the responce. I did rust prevent them. I gave them a coat of car wax, and cavity anti rust wax in the seems. I will keep them in good condition.
