Hi Dave,
The gauges of the SD1 are fixed. The wiring in the ''sticker'' behind the dials (fuel, temp and oil) were repaired and a sensor was replaced for the oil pressure. Now all dials read the good values. Thanks again for the help.

Thanks!
Some cosmetic issues sorted.
The rear wheel arches look fine but only the paint was worn of during the years.
Primer:
Colour coat:
Clear varnish:
Result:
The rear screen wiper i painted that right after the car was home. Now the front windscreen wipers needed some primer and matt black paint.

My Rover SD1 3500 Vanden Plas also has an update. I removed the AC with the help of a good friend because it did not work anymore, it was freon 12 (that can not be filled up with modern coolant), it cluttered the engine bay and took some of the cooling wind for the engine. I know i could have let it fixed but i do not really enjoy AC and would probably not use it even if it was in working order.
If you look at the older engine bay picture you can see it is much less cluttered (i still have to replace those air hoses).
The SD1 runs like a clock but some maintenance is needed next year.
New shocks
New radiator
New fan
New visco clutch
New (maybe nylon) bushes in the front suspension
Maybe new exhaust.
All normal little things to do to a 34 year old car. I am looking forward to attent to them next year. Because winter is closing in i decided to put the SD1 in hibernation. First i took a long drive to a friend where we polished the bonnet and washed the car so i could dry it on the way home. On my way home i filled the tank with premium fuel and pumped up the tires. The next day i treated all the rubbers with crease, treated the tires with crease, conserved the bumpers with creme, waxed the bonnet and spray waxed the entire body. A little wipe of the interior and windows and then it was time to put the pyjama on the car. Hibernation started.
Don't know if you can see it but there is a deeper shine.

Cheers Dave!
Yes i think it is the best choice really. Of course a car is ment to be driven but not in salty roads and when they are in need of some technical TLC.

All good points Marc - have you got a trickle charger/conditioner for your battery as well?

All good stuff! Think i need to do something similar with at least one of mine this year and empty the garage to get the other in then use the Volvo over winter - easier to get body panels for if the worst happens again!

Yes indeed that sounds like a good plan Dave. I understand that people sometimes say that putting a car in storage is not good for it. But in my opinion i prefer replacing suspension rubbers and tires than do bodywork.

I have to agree Marc, i'd rather replace a few minor rubber parts than chunks of bodywork through either salt damage or damage inflicted by others who can't drive like happened to my coupé just before last Christmas!

Yes that is a good point as well. Particular when winter just arrives people tend to keep driving as if summer conditions.
Would be awe-full to lose it anyway but in winter you have more risk i think.

Re: 1982 Rover 3500 V8 Vanden Plas automatic.
Last year definitely proved my point sadly. Even in dry and non-icy conditions, people seem to take on a strange mentality where nothing else matters except what they want to do and they must get it done now if not sooner. We call it "Silly Season" here
