He had 3, all V8s.
He then put a Rover V8 in a Transit. He has a lot to answer for in what I look for in a car.
I had 7 SD1s, can't remember if it was 2 or 3 out of that were straight 6s, rest were V8 including the first 2 that used the same engine and box.
These days, the V8 in a Transit is usually the 1UZ Toyota/Lexus 4.0 V8 although some have used the VVTi version of the same (3UZ i think it is) and the Lexus V8 is becoming more widely used as a replacement in Volvo 2/7/9xx when a bigger engine is wanted.
The Toyota/Lexus A341(E) autobox is pretty much the same as the AW-71 box fitted to most of those cars to start with and even if they didn't have an AW, because similar models had them, the mounting brackets etc exist as do the gear lever linkages etc.
I keep having moments of temptation to create what my 760 should have been originally! When they developed the PRV V6, it was originally destined to be a 3.5 V8 then the early 70s fuel crisis hit and they chopped 2 cylinders off it.
With the improvements (including longer stroke/larger bore) Volvo made about 1987, it's now 2849cc so rounding that up to a V8 makes about 3900cc give or take.
The other option is a Rover SD1 Vitesse engine that's been taken to 3.9 as that would be closer to what the original would have worked out as.
Nah, 1UZs are more plentiful!

Thanks for all the nice and interesting comments!
The British car reviewer Hubnut has made a video of my Rovers.
Enjoy!

I have some news! After quite some years in the shipping industry, i took my chances to go and switch career.
I am going to work in the automotive sector. As a car damage repair mechanic.
I will start to work there in
november. Looking forward to it!
Again we went on holiday with the SD1. It ran like a champ!
Last weekend, the weather was lovely and there was a car show named Best of British so i decided to go and
take my SD1. At arrival the cars got in line to get the picture taken with the owner.
The pictures!
My parents also came with their lovely Black MK2 Rover 827 Si.
(tu)
Shiny!
Lovely 75's on the show. This was quite special if you ask me. And oh yes, British license plates. The British came
over with quite some cars (not only for this event).
Lovely little Rover 111.
Two great 800's. One a Coupe and the other a stunning Saloon.
Inside the adjacent museum there was plenty to see.
The old boy looks better every time.

Also bed time for my Rover 3500 Vanden Plas. Nicely driven up to temperature, filled up + additive to preserve the fuel, pumped up the tires and washed.
In the garage:

Yesterday, i did some minor work on the SD1. Like the 800 series, the SD1 has a tendence to have a saggy headlining. I became bad in a short while and so bad that you hardly could look out of the rear view mirror.
I used mini spirals (ment for this job) to improve it.
Before:
After:

After:
No this is not good enough for me haha. It will be done properly in the near future and i will install a new headlining cloth.

I was getting worried until i saw your last comment Marc! Glad to know it's only a temporary fix! Some people have had success by dropping one end of the material down and spraying carpet glue on the inside of it and then pushing the material back up - quite an effective fix but nothing beats a new material!

Haha don't worry Dave, i will fix it properly!
It was that time to get the 3500 V8 out of hibernation again!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMy9qBVli8k
Started just fine as if it made a long trip the day before.
Put the tires back to driving pressure:
And visited a friend the next day without any problems! Lovely motorcar.
A job i wanted to attent since i bought the car was the steering theel. I wanted the wheel in the correct colour.
When i bought the the 3500 VDP in Switzerland the original wheel was tired and not fixable. I replaced it with a fine grey one because beige is hard to come by.
I contacted the company that provided me with products for my 827 Vitesse if they could mix the correct colour leather paint. They could so i sanded and degreased the wheel:
The kit i got:
After some layers of paint i was happy with the result:
After a day or two drying i added leather paint sealer:
To be followed by leather protector:
Then i gave the interior a good clean. Looks pretty good if you ask me. Not perfect but i am happy!
