I think you may lose the Vitesse to your son soon Henrik! :D
Might very Well be true Dave! He’s soon starting a job for August and has claimed it as his daily transport. A good choice!
Definitely a good choice! :D
Cheers,
Dave

I found an epoxi for alloy, a chemical metal. It’s a powder and a resin that is mixed to a ”porridge” and then applied. Afterwards it can be cut, sawed, drilled etc. Very hard indeed. Excellent product!

It’s not beautiful but it works!
Could you give us details of the stuff you used? If it works, it would be good to get hold of some.

Thanks

Hi Richard,
I haven’t tried it yet except regarding the mouldings and building but I know it’s very sturdy. Not sure if you have Biltema over there but it’s almost as big as IKEA so I wouldn’t be surprised! This is a link to the Swedish site. I think it’s possible to change language.
Please let me know if you want me to help you out in any way, sending some etc.

I think I got it in English:

I’ve been fiddling some more to my old Austin. Oh what a joy it is to do this.

I decided to move the battery from the floor inside the passenger footwell up into the firewall. Around it I wanted a wood ”box”. The Wood is aged using coffee and it looks great. In addition I made a small casing for spare sparkplugs like many MGs had back in the days. The lid is an original item and I have a bracket made up to secure it. (Not seen in pics) Pretty pleased with the result!

Excellent stuff there Henrik! I'm useless at working with wood, it looks like a toddler has run amok with a chainsaw if i try doing anything with wood! :P

Haha it’s not that fantastic Dave but thank you. I can really recommend the coffee trick to all readers out there, making the wood look really period.

Given my woodworking skills (or lack of) i'd get much more enjoyment from drinking the coffee instead! :P

Worth remembering though in case i ever need to artificially age some wood! :D
Cheers,
Dave

I've emailed Biltema about the metal compound but as it's weekend I got a very nice out of office (in Swedish).
Luckily there is an English translation underneath.
Have a nice day !

Yes, agree! And as this car isn’t really an original it’s ok to make solutions like this, letting inspiration flow. The sparkplug-idea is inspired by MGs from the thirties. Overall It looks and feels period and correct. The correct solution would however be a bag with the tools in them, and the bag kept in the tray under a seat. But that wouldn’t have the same estethic effect! 😎
