I've no idea - I've sent a couple pf messages but got no reply. To be honest, if he can't be bothered to complete then deal then I'm not going to chase him - I could do without spending the money right now.

It could all be genuine Rich, he may have succumbed to the dreaded swine flu or had a burst appendix or something of that ilk. On the other hand you may have had a lucky escape!! There was a scam a few years ago involving a Datsun Skyline C210 series on ebay where the seller said a deposit must be paid within a certain time of winning the auction. The car didn't exist but that didn't stop the seller taking deposits and relisting it as "buyer made no contact". Got to admit the Metro would be an unlikely candidate for that but the lack of keys when you went to collect was a bit of an alarm bell!!
Hope it all works out ok for you,
cheers,
Dave

To be honest, I just think he's terminally disorganised. I'm annoyed at a wasted trip (and fuel) for the initial collection and then being let down re: delivery.
I've decided that I'm not going to chase him any more and if he gets in touch we me, I shall tell him to keep it.

When I went to collect it and he'd misplaced the keys, I said I couldn't hang around all day whilst he tried to find them. Simon Hubbard had kindly come along to give me a hand with towing it and he had another commitment and we just didn't have enough time. The seller then said he needed it gone by friday (yesterday) and that if it wasn't gone he would re-list it. We said that we could collect and started discussing a date/time.
He then offered to deliver it and we agreed on tuesday/wednesday, with cash on delivery, and as far as I was concerned the deal was done.
Since then, despite me sending him a number of messages, I've heard nothing. In my opinion that counts as him letting me down and he's gone past his own, self-imposed deadline for doing the deal.
It would have been an intriguing project but to be honest I've now lost interest!

There's plenty more projects out there, and quite possibly more interesting, intriguing and fulfilling. Anyway, i'd say it was his loss, seemed a bit of a mickey take that he put the pressure on you to get it gone by friday when you were there to collect and HE had lost the keys!!
A project i've been watching on ebay (but can't afford now!) is this :-
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... K:MEWAX:IT
Apparently it has a good pair of front seats with it to match the back and from the listing would seem to be structurally sound, just needing body work and a blowover to make look nice. His delivery charge seems to be about £1/mile one way, might be worth a look!! Anyway, besides the fact i can't afford it just now, i've got too many other projects going on!!
Cheers,
Dave

That was something that sort of put me off even if the money side hadn't!! Had a few plans for it too like a high output alternator from a later car (Lucas A127), halogen headlamp conversion (using proper lamp units, not just bulbs), unleaded head (think i could rob a later Saab for that (?)) and a few other bit's and pieces to make it a classic with mod-cons, all subtly done of course!

The head should be OK - the Sprint and 1850 heads (the same as the TR7 head) have steel valve seats already fitted and according to the Practical Classics price guide are all suitable for unleaded.

now that takes me back... please allow me to wallow in nostalgia for a little while...
I worked for Computervision (CV) from '84-2001, so those little cars were a bit special to me. ARG used CV for Computer Aided Design, and I was an application support engineer. I remember the 800 being modelled on one of the very first 3D visualisations, back when computers could barely cope with 3D at all. We sponsored the 6R4, and of course Tony Pond in an SD1. There was a joke at the time that our logo should have been underneath the car as it spent more of its life upside down in a ditch..
I remember a very hot and dreary sales meeting in August at some country manner which ended with the curtains being dramatically thrown open to reveal, stood outside, the brand new, just announced R800 saloon, and the 6R4 was parked beside it. We were allowed to spend the afternoon poking around them, but not drive either, sadly! About 3 months later I got my 820E company car. What a fantastic moment that was Felt immeasurably superior to the Cavalier SRi I had before it. Happy days.
CV also had a little Metro turbo done up in 6R4 colours, that was a general pool car. That was lots of fun for the odd weekend
Anyway, enough misty eyed wallowing for now...
Cheers
Tim

I can just imagine a little 1 litre Metro trying to pull the weight and drag of that kit along a dual carriageway.
Anyway, although this 1 litre car has now escaped me, it's not the end of my metro-ing. Steve Cargill (SteveyC from this forum) has just bought an M-reg 1.4 Gta 5 door which needs a little fettling. We did a bit on sunday and will be doing more over the next weekas we try toi get it back together for an MOT. The jobs list includes:
A bit of welding (well, it is a Metro)
CTS, spark plugs, distributor cap and rotor arm, oil, filter etc.
Front wheel bearing
Rear brake adjustment.
Hopefully the service items will bring the CO levels in to line for the MOT tester (it wasn't far out before, I don't think)
