Will do, when needed. Thanks for the reminder.

Although some do cover cars as classic or collectable for over 15 years old, the majority state 20 years old to qualify.

And this one is'nt there yet.

Oddly, if I insured it for me or Phillippa with Hannah as a named driver then the numbers are about the same
I think that's the insurers getting wise to the "fronting" problem, they just quote to the highest risk driver now, even if just a named driver.

I once tried to get a quote for our 2 lads as named drivers on the wifes 216 cabrio, came back at £7,000

Try insuring it in her name with you and your wife as named drivers. Not fronting and lowers the average risk. For me when i'm 20 in July, with Mum and Dad Named drivers on a multicar policy (assuming I can negotiate my 3 years NCB - also assuming I don't make the aqauintance of a tree again!) Insurance for me on the 820 is ~£850

Oddly an 827 vittesse is ~£700 (yes I checked!)

Also, big bro's landy, out of pure curiosity I asked Adrian Flux - expecting silly numbers even with the standard 2.25

£679 in my name no named drivers and 2 years NCB

Not bad!

Here's the kicker though, for laughs I asked what would the premuim be if it had a T-Series Turbo in it.

Answer
£679

Ok how about a carbed 3.5 Rover V8?
£679

Getting better and better!

Alright how about the 4.2 efi V8 from a Range Rover?
£679 8)

Apparently they don't care as long as the engine is not supercharged or other mods that increase performance the cost is going to be £679 a year

First though I would have to convice big bro to let me borrow it untill I can get my own car insured sensibly and of course put an engine into the darn thing! (RPI engineering 5.2 EFi anyone?)

Insurers are the most confusing, two-faced folks to deal with. It makes life much harder than it needs to be!

I already looked at that and it's the same price as with it registered in my name and Hannah as a named driver (give or take a few quid), so we are planning to put it in her name to build up some NCB.

Dickie, you could try and give MaryMaestro a shout on MacD. He's quoting me (happy?) when my premium is due.

Thanks. The first year won't need any junior/inexperienced drivers - just the old farts!

827 Vits do seem to be quite cheap to insure, can only assume they've not had many claims against them.

Maybe the claims are over the last so many year? Less of the cars and therefore less claims?

I've had a little time to look at this car today and I have to say that it appears to be a little cracker. There are a few localised body repairs to do but not that much, to be honest, so I'm very pleased. I'll start a proper thread when I get the chance to take some photos.

"Big sigh of relief from Mal"
I'm glad you're happy with the car Richard.

It's always a worry of mine when someone buys something from me based on the pictures and description alone, as I always think I have forgotten something, or missed something that I did'nt mention beforehand.

I just hope you're as happy with the MG Metro "Project Play Car" when you arrive to collect it.

Mal.
