Washed, waxed packed and fully loaded for tomorrow!

See you all there - plan to drop the 820 off at the stand with some blurb in the screen for folks and park the trailer and myself at the autojumble. There'll be a note in the 'screen telling folks to look for the big Rover sign and COS 51C reg plate in the autojumble

Thanks Jim - i got there in the end! Still running slightly rough on gas but sure it will work itself out. Had a late night shopping trip for the last minute bits but now it's time for shower and shut-eye in that order!

Terrific idea on that sign Dusan!  :D I see you're all loaded and raring to go!
Cheers,
Dave

Well the day of the rally dawned as grey and gloomy as a gloomy grey day can ever be, although it was dry. Arriving just before 10am, Kate and Suzy were already there with the last Mk1 827 Police car that saw active service in the Met and was then sold to a film/tv production company that used it in the tv series "The Bill" and one of the oldest surviving Mk1 820Si's resplendent in it's perfect Shantung Gold bodywork and immaculate interior having only covered 23000 miles from new.

Image

Image

Was tricky to get the best angle for Kates gold beastie but Jons superb G reg 820Si which is only a little younger provided a great comparison of how Rover were constantly changing the specifications of little details.

Fortunately by this time, the sun had broken through and it proved to be a really hot sunny day, if a little windy. Several people i saw looked a bit sunburned and i was shocked when i got home to see i'd turned red!

Completing the Mk1 line up were this very early 825i (Honda powerd, not a time-warp KV6!) and an 820 Turbo, the predeccor to the 820 Vitesse.

Image

The Mk2 line-up starts with this very nice K reg 827 coupé

Image

followed by Andys lovely black 827 saloon, apparently a VIP transport car in a previous life.

Image

We then have a trio of coupés, Gaz's Charleston Green Vitesse, my 827 coupé in White Gold and Edwards lovely Oxford Blue 820 Sterling auto

Image

Moving on, Rickys lovely 825 Sterling fastback, a Nightfire Red coupé and what i think is Marcs 820Si from Holland (sorry i didn't get to meet you Marc!), another red coupé and Dusans fastback complete with frehly refurbished gold RS 7-spokes.

Image

Tucked neatly on the end, this Vitesse fastback, slightly modified and featuring body colour A-pillars!

Image

I did try for a "Marc high shot" and this is the closest i got :

Image

It shows about 1/4 of the rest of the show, maybe not even that much! It's a huge display area. Behind us was the SD1 stand, not only does this next shot show that but also an idea of the size of the place

Image

There were a total of 11 Mk2s and 5 Mk1s on the stand although a few more 800s were spotted round the site so maybe 20-25 as a grand total. Shame we didn't get 30 to mark the 30th Anniversary!

All in all a great day, met up with friends old and new and enjoyed the weather too! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Great day enjoyed by all and helped by the weather, shame more couldn't make the effort.

Glad the cars behaved and the weather was good, thanks for the pictures and the words Dave, especially the Marc high shot attempt ..lol
Some lovely 800's on display, maybe the magic 30 was going to be difficult simply as there arent many about now. I apologize again should have been there but it wasnt possible.
Is there another Rover 800 event this summer?

One very simple reason Dean - the sun was behind me that way. If i'd tried the other way what normally happens with my phone camera is the sun glares into it so much it makes the subject almost a silhouette.

Thanks Jim, you may be right about the magic 30 but there were a few not there that are normally regulars - i can think of 3 or 4 which would have boosted the numbers and i know of 3 more in my village (one of which is mine and i can't drive both at the same time   ) so would have been up to about 24-26 if those had attended.

As far as i know there aren't any more events of that scale, might be a few smaller versions here and there or maybe even another "biggy" but i don't know.

Very true Gaz - good to catch up with you both! Oh yeah - and get my airing cupboard back!

A few more pics, I took shots of all the cars on the stand but some are missing here, I took these together later but did'nt notice at the time they were blurred... Damn
Sorry to those owners, perhaps someone else will be along with some pics.

Good to meet everyone again and some for the first time.
Many thanks to Dusan for bringing the Mk1 parts and letting us having them at give away prices, Top Man !!

Superb pictures Jon! Amazing the difference between a dedicated camera and a phone camera - i couldn't have got the front shot of Kates Police car like you did.
Cheers,
Dave

Thanks Dave,

just a bridge camera, knowing their limitations like you have there's not always much difference in picture quality.

I don't really know too much about cameras these days Jon, at one time i used to know the differences but that was when they took those strange things called films instead of SD cards! ;) :D
What i do know is that a camera on a phone is a compromise, a very good one in many cases but only if you know exactly how to use it - i leave it on the idiot-proof setting (automatic) and just point-and-shoot and hope for the best!
Cheers,
Dave
