I know Jon (Jon R - the owner of the pristine red Mk1 820 Si) and Alex (Alex SBY) usually do something - not sure if they're doing it this year but i believe so.

Perhaps it's being organised by the new owners club?

Is that thing still going?
I'm bitterly disappointed by the club and won't be renewing this year.

That comment makes me glad i waited Tom! In principle it was a good idea but the way it seemed to "spring up overnight" with (seemingly) little or no prior advertising/information/suggestion about an "official" club put me off somewhat. Also i understand there have been a lot of problems with Membership Packs and other things, all of which could be attirbuted to teething troubles if the members were happy but even one unhappy member suggests it isn't what it should be.traineefarmer wrote:Is that thing still going?

Then again i'm well known for being a cynical old git!

£16 has got me a couple of pens (stolen by the wife ) and some badly photocopied and barely legible newsletters - which are in monotone on A4 paper then mailed out in a foolscap envelope. Why, given the minimal content, these couldn't be A5 saving stationary costs and no need for a large letter stamp.Richard Moss wrote:What was the problem?traineefarmer wrote:Is that thing still going?

And that's it. Barely any organisation for shows or events, no parts discounts, no moves to have NLA parts manufactured.
I have an allergic reaction to committees, so I'm not interested in getting involved. I showed some support for the club, but I shall not be continuing with it.
Tom.

That's pretty much how I feel about clubs. It was why I would have preferred the 800 to become a sub-group within another club. One model clubs are often very dull due to the lack of variety (the same as one-make magazines).
The Rover Sports Register are a friendly, supportive bunch who, accept the 800 (several key members own and drive modern Rovers).

Re: Lancaster Insurance NEC Classic Motorshow 2016
I was one of those not in favour of a club being formed, but given the assurances that it was not going to be competing with the forum or appropriating it top become "members only" I though I would give it a go.
Sadly, too often the committees of small clubs become a vehicle for certain types of people to assert their self-importance rather then benefit the members.
To defend the above comment, I should say that I do not personally know the committee of the 800 club, so their aims and ambition may be completely noble. It should be taken as a sweeping generalisation of my experiences of "getting involved" with various clubs in the past.

There will be an 800 stand, looks like it'll be in Hall 1.

Re: Lancaster Insurance NEC Classic Motorshow 2016
Not as yet Dave.
Don't know who's cars will be there.
Thats up to Alex, depends on the choice / variations of cars offered.
I believe that there will be Mk1's only this year.

Re: Lancaster Insurance NEC Classic Motorshow 2016
Given the very few numbers of Mk1s left Jon then it won't be a very big stand! Hopefully there will be enough owners/cars available to make it a success though.

The forum remains independent - I "own" the domain name and James (guru) kindly hosts it on his personal servertraineefarmer wrote:I was one of those not in favour of a club being formed, but given the assurances that it was not going to be competing with the forum or appropriating it top become "members only" I though I would give it a go.
