XJ40 meet, 7th May 2011
Late notice I know, but the chaps from http://www.xj40.com are having a get together at the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, North Yorks on 7th May.
The plan is a tour of the brewery, a couple of pints of "produce" and lunch - all for £15 per head which is good value. Meet up at 10am and finish whenever it finishes!
Brewery website: http://www.blacksheepbrewery.com/
Payment to Rob Jenner: rob.jenner@tiscali.co.uk
Obviously it's primarily aimed at XJ40 (and X300) drivers but I'm sure that they won't mind the odd waif or stray. My father in law is going in his TR7 (but he has my Jag in his garage so it's close enough!) and a couple of the other Jag drivers are having to go "in plain clothes" - so any Jag/car enthusiast is likely to be welcome.
There's a planned pre-meet the night before for those staying over night at the nearby Bull Inn in West Tanfield (nice pub) with a meal planned for about 7pm: http://www.thebullinnwesttanfield.co.uk/
There are a few campsites nearby if you don't fancy a B&B.
A couple of threads from the forum - the first rambles a bit but contains most of the info:
http://www.xj40.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t ... &sk=t&sd=a
The second is about the pre-meet:
http://www.xj40.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t ... 9096c03b4a
I'd love to go but circumstances prevent!

Unlike No 3 offspring I took the trouble to pop across to the XJ40 Forum and found there is an X300 subforum where someone has cross posted our project from Retro-Rides. I'm awaiting approval of my registration to post a reply.
Re the post in the X300 sub-forum:
It's an X308 not an X300. NASP sadly, but Sovereign spec. Don't get all humphy - like most X308s it was shiny, but rotten as a carrot.
It's not a Daimler Corsica Replica - that's a 2-door Convertible based on an SWB. This is a 4-door Phaeton based on an LWB. If it owes anything to another car, then it would be a Lincoln Continental.
The 420 is mine
The 'X-type' is actually my wife's S-Type.
You know about the 800 I share with No 3 son.
This is a joint project with No1 son and two of his colleagues. Progress is slow as No1 son and colleagues live in Sheffield and only come down to work on it in holidays. They started over the Christmas break. My contribution seems mainly to be cleaning and painting parts, making tea, supplying workshop, tools, consumables and bed and board. Occasionally I'm allowed to do exciting stuff like dressing welds.
This Easter holiday his two colleagues are both working so I've been allowed to make sill end closers for both ends AND even do some CAD and cutout some panels - YEAH! I was allowed to resolve the rear deck design, but only allowed to cut and fit the 'teak' decking. Apparently I cannot be trusted to use my angle grinders to cut OEM panels nor my welder to glue new ones on.
Mk1 and Mk2 MX-5s make regular holiday visits. No 2 son just left with refurbished wishbones with all new bushes and wheel bearings.
I've heard of cupboard love but sometimes I think I 'suffer' from garage-love.
Oh to answer the obvious questions:
Yes - it will have a towbar fitted and a detachable 'Continental' style spare wheel.
Yes - it will have demountable running boards to slot into the jacking points to carry outriders for 'off highway' parade work.
Yes - it will have flag mounts on both front wings.
Yes - we are planning 2 rear facing Dickey Seats in the boot - and, yes, that is permissable under the IVA regs.
Yes - Im trying to persuade him to buy an X300 to make a matching trailer, so I can have the engine and gearbox to transplant into the 420.

Dusan's Dad - it's MY Rover son!
And it's my 40 too, or what's left of it.

Lack of MOT, tax, insurance and he's a bit funny about driving other people's cars even if he is insured on them!Richard C wrote:Why don't you let your father in law drive the jag and give it a run

I guess you could say it's had some extra metalwork welded inscoobyh123 wrote:Have you done anything to replace the lost strength of the roof on that? Looks like it will be an awesome project when it's all done - looks pretty damn good as it is but can imagine it will be even better when it's finished!
Step 1 - Remove sills
Step 2 - 150mm x 150mm x 5mm box section + two jacks
Step 3 - Add some 50mmx 50mm x 3mm box section bracing - Weld on shipyard mode for 4 1/2 hours
That's only half of it, the entire transmission tunnel has been plated using another transmission tunnel taken from a doner X300 from a scrapyard.
The B pillars are plated in 5mm and 3mm plate with 5mm reinforcing strips - they took 10 tonnes between the top of them and only elastically deformed!
It's a bit of a beast
Doesn't bend much either
