Give Adrian Flux a try Charles, something in your latest post just jogged my memory about someone who was with them on his 800 and had SD&P including commuting to/from a permanent place of work and fairly sure his insurance was nothing like you paid, even when he had a manual 827 Sterling.

Has to be worth a try! :D

As it happens Dave, Adrian Flux is at my next port of calling. :) I think I'll leave the phone call today though.

Its always so tedious is quote shopping, but worth it..when I'm in the right mindset

I've just done a couple of quotes for comparison. It does seem to be an expensive car to insure.

Are you running the coupe as a main car now? No other cars on the road? Early 90s stuff is cheap through Lancaster but only as a second or more car.

I had quotes of £4-500 as a main car and £250 as a second car.

Wonder if it's because it's a coupe rather than a saloon/hatch?

That's my usual trick as well Charles then it's sudden;y renewal day and i still don't feel like it so just renew anyway!

There is a 14-day "cooling off" period so i often use that to try and better the renewal i've had and then usually find i can't.
Cheers,
Dave

Could well be Chris, when i had mine, the premium for the Coupe was about 50% more than the mechincally identical Sterling saloon. Perhaps the insurers percieve it as either a sports version or that it will be more costly to pay out on in the event of a total loss. I'm convinced the insurers make the rules up as they go along to suit themselves.

The Coupe is my main commuter car now.
The little Hyundai I got rid of ages ago and replaced that with a 125 Yamaha motorcycle.

I soon came to learn the Yamaha was not practical for regular use and the insurance for that was £600 a year fully comp.
I didn't own this bike very long. At the time of selling that I was given the use of the 08 reg banger belonging to work which was convenient timing.

My new job is much nearer to home. But driving is still the best option even if it means insuring the coupe for the commute purpose.

Just finished on the phone with Adrien Flux insurance.
The nice sounding lady took all my details and searched for a quote.
The cheapest she found is underwritten by AXA insurance.
This comprehensive policy includes at no extra cost;

Social domestic and commute
Windscreen Cover up to £100
Free legal cover, seperately underwritten by Great Lakes
European cover
3rd party cover for using other vehicles

The excess I pay is £225.
Cover based on 4000 miles per year (less driving for me now)

Will include a valuation but I will need to pay £15.00 for the paperwork and to include 8 photos of the car.

All in all, the price is £298.00 for the year.

This is roughly a tenner more than last year but my excess to pay in the event of an accident is £25 cheaper.

So this aint bad with all the mods declared as well (including most recent front disk upgrade).

I think I would struggle to find a better like for like quote.

That's great news Charles, you may find it cheaper but the whole package sounds better than most so perhaps worth paying for. :D

As a whole, the proposal is better than what I've currently got.
Because there is the option for the agreed valuation I will be able to get the car valued at a fixed price should it be declared a write off.
What price the insurer will agree on, is very hard to say.
Though I have a price in my mind that I feel the car is worth.
The likelihood is, the insurer will go off average market value.
Not easy to determine a market value for 800s with so few road worthy examples running.

Go for as high a figure as you can get Charles, values of 800s are in the doldrums a bit at the moment, year before last you could easily have said £3-5k, last year about half that and this year doesn't seem too good so far.
However if they come back up in the next year and if the worst happens with a low value, you'd struggle to replace it.
In fairness you'd struggle to replace it because an 827 Coupe is a rare animal to start with, manuals are even scarcer!
Cheers,
Dave
