There is a load of information on the 75 forum, including buying guides. The 2 litre v6 seems to be less popular as it is not as powerful as the 2.5 but consumes the same amount of fuel.

The general feeling is that while the 2L V6 is a smooth engine, there is little else to reccomend it. Better the 2.5 or the diesel

Re: What to look for on a Rover 75 2.0 V6
Trying to join the 75 forum to get a post in.
Dad not keen on diesel as does lots small runs as a postman & used to petrol anyway.
I said the 2.5 better, but just happens to be one near him for £990 ,his mot & tax nearly up on his mazda which me & bro helped his get couple years back to get through a winter, but so much wrong with it now.
Doesnt have time to look around, but he doesnt want a car that going to end up costing loads again.
He was looking at a small economical car as doesnt use much, then he phones up last night & said might be looking at this rover.

That sounds about right!tesrover5 wrote:He was looking at a small economical car as doesnt use much, then he phones up last night & said might be looking at this rover.
There is however nothing wrong with the 2.0L v6 and if it available, local and is a good price then why not?
We have just got a 75 diesel tourer, very nice car.

Re: What to look for on a Rover 75 2.0 V6
In terms of problems then there is no difference between the 2.0 and the 2.5, so all the normal things like rattly manifolds/vis motors, cracked thermostat housings and small bore piping and expensive cambelt changes ect ect ect.
The 2 litre as mentioned above is a perfectly good engine but a bit of a white elephant, it lacks the oomph of the 2.5 and yet returns almost identical mpg.
If your dad is really after a cheap runaround then dont buy a 75, they were never a cheap car to run, that wasn't the market they were built for, and one with problems can become a bit of a money pit. Engines aside both transmissions can give trouble, the cooling fan is a bit of a liability, road springs snap, brake pipes rust, track control arms seem to need replacing at relatively low mileages as do rear wheel bearings. Door locks seem to be another regular malady along with swamped ECU's.
A good one will give you one of the most relaxing and cossetting drives you have ever experienced, a bad one will give you depression.

They look nice but dad wont need the capasity,i did have designs when younger for any estates. The rear transforms into a hatch or saloon by touch of a button lol just push again & it cleverly folds back out, like convertable a roof.Simon Hubbard wrote:That sounds about right!tesrover5 wrote:He was looking at a small economical car as doesnt use much, then he phones up last night & said might be looking at this rover.

What he is thinking, also got simular specs to his old citroen xantia exclusive which needed work doing to hydrolics so going to be scrapped. If he went to small car, loose so much creature comforts.
But think it mum keep making jokes if got small car about them being very old people, put more off lol.
