No cup holders - No problem!
Single Din Radio Pocket Drink Cup Holder + Storage tray. Seems cheaply priced from China.

They're even cheaper in the UK Charles!

I bought one some time ago, used it in my Jeep and it was in the Volvo for a while. It's now sitting somewhere looking lost. Not over impressed with them to be honest.
Phil B has a pair of these side by side, glued to the lower wood panel above the ashtray in his centre console :

I've got one of the second item to do a similar job but i think the way Phil has done it is better so i might just buy a pair of those single ones and "side-by-side" them.
There's quite a lot of options, not many work that well in the 800 though. Also though of doing it the Volvo way, where the cup holders slide out from the arm rest on top of the centre console cubby

Re: No cup holders - No problem!
I only just came across the product today and I hadn't known these were available in the UK either. Been pondering with the idea of having one for the coupe. I mean really I don't like looking at the space below the radio because it's dull looking and it would be very handy to store my phone in the tray compartment as apposed to it rolling around on the dashboard. Never really needed cupholders tbh though.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 8:43 pmThey're even cheaper in the UK Charles!

That gives me an idea Charles. How thick is your phone?
I'll try and find my one of those and measure the depth in the "blank" tray to make sure it'll fit for you.

I'd say 4.5mm by 12(cm) Dave.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 9:38 pmThat gives me an idea Charles. How thick is your phone?

Re: No cup holders - No problem!
I've found it Charles, the maximum size of the phone that will go in is 14 x 6.5 x 1.5cm but that might be a bit tight.
If it's tight, it will be hard to get it out - it will fall in so no problem there but unless you plan on turning your car upside down, if it's tight you won't get it out!
If yours really is 12 x 4.5cm you should be in with a shout, all down to the thickness really.

Re: No cup holders - No problem!
Nearly forgot - during a moment of madness, probably down to the heat, i found a pair of the cup holders Phil used in his cup holder conversion and ordered them. Separate sellers so whether they arrive the same day or not i don't know but hopefully in time for the BMC/BL show at Peterborough soon!
The beauty of the ones he used is they slide out then the leading edge angles down so the cup is more level - works well with the slight slope of the centre console!

Been driving a 2007 Seat Leon today. I think it could have the same singular cupholder.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 04, 2018 11:01 pmNearly forgot - during a moment of madness, probably down to the heat, i found a pair of the cup holders Phil used in his cup holder conversion and ordered them. As for the phone I have, it's smaller dimensions than the maximum size you say fit - all fine.

Re: No cup holders - No problem!
From what i can see, the same cupholder was fitted to many VAG (VW, Audi, Seat, Skoda) products and of course the Ford Galaxy which is a Seat Alhambra/VW Sharan in disguise.
I'm hoping mine arrive in time to convert the lower part of the upper console in my Sterling before the Peterborough show. Leave them open and really confuse people!
As for this two-drawer cupholder/drawer thingy, it weighs just under 200g so i can send it as a "Small Parcel" which will be about £3.50 second class if i've understood the online pricefinder correctly.
https://www.royalmail.com/price-finder
It says the price (£2.95) is exempt from VAT but i've been charged the price quoted + VAT at the post office in the past so not quite sure what's going on there!
Either way, it's in good condition and yours for the cost of postage if you want to give it a try.
I'm still trying to work out how to get that hub etc apart, soaking in WD40 as a pre-soak for WMP when i mix some more up. I'm doing it "as and when" rather than a "hurry it up" thing though.

Re: No cup holders - No problem!
I've had a think on this Dave. I've decided to leave the centre console (if that's right) as it is (for now).
I'm still not sure really what I want to do to improve upon what's there as standard. Ideally I would like to fit a Mk1 trip computer and I bought a Mk1 spares or repairs car really for that purpose. But when I mulled over how complex it is to do this swap I dropped the idea and sold that car to Chris Ellis on here. And now a few years later, I'm still non the wiser what to do so I left it standard and that's how it has remained thus far with the exception of the Kenwood Bluetooth DAB unit.

Re: No cup holders - No problem!
Maybe your best bet is to leave it as it is Charles?
A Mk1 trip computer would have been nice though!

Yes it would have been like fine icing on a nice baked cake. I have actually bought a trip computer kit from a builder called Reveltronics. Same thing again; I've yet to fit this.scoobyh123 wrote: ↑Sat Jul 07, 2018 5:03 pmMaybe your best bet is to leave it as it is Charles?

I'm sure it will make an interesting project one eventual day.
