Mk1 827sli (in potential ownership)

Post by Charles827si » Sun Jul 29, 2018 5:59 pm

So today I've done a somewhat random (for me) deal to secure a Mk1 827sli. (That's all I'm gonna say until this is finalized)
Under the somewhat rusty exterior, there seems to lie quite an original gem of a car and my plan is just to sit on it for a while until I save enough to get started on a steady rolling resto.

I'll keep yall posted here (not bothering with the Facebook group these days, because there are so many members who I don't know personally and all the comments there are random and somewhat non model specific)

Yes it is :D This is better value then the guy with the 800 collection on Facebook who will only sell each car for no less than £750. It would be a shame if they were scrapped though.

Have you seen it in person? Looks really rusty on the offside. Late build E reg, as my rear end of the two headed car was an F reg 827SLi (in blue) and it had hockey type door handles but this one doesn't.

I agree about the guy on facebook, "you can have them for £750 or i'll scrap them" I mean seriously he'll get what £150 but he would rather scrap them than lower the price, it's not like he's listed what they are, model, mileage etc...

I've not seen this car, buying blind really as I did with the coupe. It does look quite rusty but I know that Rimmers still have the rear panels for the Mk1 saloon (hopefully both sides).
I just noticed your right about the door handles; this car has the later type so must have been a late build during the year.
And there looks to be a lawn mower on the back seats, I wonder if I get this too
As for the facebook seller, if he wants to scrap his cars, I don't know why he hasn't done so by now. It's nice that the cars are going up in price, but I'm a realist and realistically; nobody in the right mind is going to pay 750quid for a non runner with no tax or MOT. Good luck to him.

The Sli was like the link between the 827si and the Sterling. SLI had optional alloy wheels like the 827si (this one has steelies and probably original to the car).
And the sli came with the trip computer like the Sterling. But unlike the Sterling, I don't think it came with adjustable rear seats unless this was a cost option?
I have a nice set of 15inch Mk1 Prestige alloys that can replace the steel ones. (I put them for sale on eBay but still no interest, apart from 3 watchers)

The MK1 SLI had standard (hinged lever you pull up) rear sliding adjustable seats with electric cost option as found in the Sterling.

The alloys will look nice on it :)

What's the progress with your Si?

Ah well I never knew that about the rear seats in the MK1sli.

The progress... the SI... hardly nothing in a year  The good news is it's still in the same state, not deteriorated because it's been kept in a dry ventilated area. That's another project to get round to. At least it will be more affordable now that my insurance premium for the coupe has been halved.

No its a blue E reg 827sli saloon (probably Mk1a/b). The seller has provisionally given his word, and will close the advert after working out the delivery cost (for some reason). But I've got it cheaper then the buy it now price.

Crikey! You're brave!!

I reckon this is why he won't close the listing until he's given you the transport costs :

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/dir/Keigh ... 50.8337611

It's about 280 miles each way, knowing the charges for this sort of delivery can vary between £1-2/mile (usually £1/mile round trip or £2/mile one-way) or whatever they feel like to be honest, it could be he's reluctant to close the listing until you've accepted the transport costs.

He's probably been caught before by selling someone a car for say £150 and they live in a place say 200 miles away and delivery would be £200 for example and the buyer then says they don't want it because the delivery has more than doubled the price. :D
Cheers,
Dave

Either brave or very idiotic! :D Delivery comes to £275 and the car was £350 (wished I had got another £50 off had I thought the seller would be so willing to accept). And I've just paid for the car so here is another 800 in my 3 car fleet! :D

At least he's not hammering you on delivery - in all honesty having gone down the route of hiring a trailer, fueling my car up etc to go and collect a car myself at a distance of about 200 miles, that worked out about £200-250 between fuel, trailer hire, stopping at various roadside establishments (usually at M-Way services) for a feed or three through the day and so on it makes £275 seem very good value for a 280 ish mile delivery.

I just hope the underside of the car is in better condition than the doors, they can be replaced easily by comparison to having to cut sections of floor out, weld replacements in and so on. :D
Cheers,
Dave

Yeah I guess the delivery price aint bad. And this is convenient to be offered, so that I'm not sorting my own arrangement (I don't have a trailer of my own either) and it saves me the long journey. It might seem alot to me what I've paid, but when you consider how rare these are now (particularly Mk1s) overall the price is not massive to pay.
And (yup) hopefully the underside is in a better state than the outer panels
