ZS climate control conversion

Post by bren » Wed Aug 24, 2011 8:13 pm

i decided to do the climate control conversion on the ZS yesterday. after being spoilt with the sterling i couldnt stick the standard ZS aircon.
its all in and working, two afternoons work which isnt bad for complete dash removal, replacing the heater box and a bit of rewiring. blower is now much stronger and the resister pack has now gone, a weak spot on these cars. also fitted rear parking sensors from the donor car along with replacing the seat rears which now have leather map pockets. cost all in under £30 have now also fitted the touch screen sat nav pioneer head unit £200.
all good fun.

Is that a common mod then?

apparently not :)
posted on zs central saying that i expect lots of members have done this upgrade and posted some pics.
i was informed that NO this has not been done and most people said it could not be done
no such word as cant in my tool box
i was lucky to find a complete rover 45 on an 06 plate, 22000 miles and it was mint. written off as a tree fell on the tail gate back when we had the heavy snow. originally it was for the head lamp and bumper mount to repair the zs front end.
but after seeing the car and the high level of spec for a 1.4 the cogs started turning regarding ATC, parking sensors etc
thought it odd that a 1.4 had so many extras fitted, only thing missing was full leather.
for less than £150 i managed to do rear electric window and door card upgrade, parking sensors, climate control, seat trim with leather map pockets, heated seats and the ice control leather s/wheel. plus a shed full of spares.
thats the trouble when you drive the 800, you get used to all the toys

Did well for all that.

You should try driving mine sometime. Mine doesn't even have basics like a carpet.

Good work, Bren.

My Lumina could do with climate control rather than just basic aircon but I'm not sure that I have the motivation to do it!

Nice one - any thoughts on getting aircon retrofitted in a late Mk1? I'm guessing the only practical solution is a simple on/off to work in conjunction with the existing simple ventilation/blower? Have enquired about retrofit of the full ATC system before and been told by my garage to go and lie down... Could it be that bad?

i bet the wiring is already on the mk1, they only started cost cutting on later models. if that is the case wouldnt be such a head ache. if you could find a donor car with all the bits needed you would just need a good supply of tea

for you, while working on it???

Interestingly, there is no wiring for puddle lights in my Mk1 doors, so apparently not an entirely common loom by the time we get to Mk1c...

Love to achieve full ATC in it though!

Looks a good job. You should write up a how to guide. (mainly for me next year, lol) Hope you don't mind but I have mentioned this on themgzs.co.uk too.

you dont need a write up m8, just get the parts and a box of tea bags to keep me going  i will be over if there,s free tea and biscuits. if you can find a donor car we are on, same goes for rear power windows and heated front seats etc.
no probs putting on zs site
