Welcome aboard Adrian! An 800bhp, rear wheel drive 800? Wow! Definitely a sleeper!

Welcome aboard!

That sounds a familiar line of thought. I wanted to shoehorn the drivetrain of an E39 M5 under an 800 shell... For the exact same purpose of a sleeper.

Problem is these days you need a Kia as a sleeper and an 800 stands out too much! ;-)

BMW did something similar with the Rover 75 except they used the Mustang engine as well as the gearbox they already used in the 5 series and called it the ZT-260. I reckon if you could get a compact enough gearbox and an IRS diff, your options would only be limited by the size of the engine bay. I think the 75s engine bay is about 1 1/4" wider than the 800 from some very rough measurements taken recently for something else (T-series into a 75 K-series) so you may even be able to squeeze the Mustang lump into the 800 as well.
Not so sure the 800 does stand out, people have either forgotten what they are or dismiss them as "grandads cars" - bad mistake on both counts!

Dave

Ello all sorry a bit of confusion there the 800hp+ t16 will be going in my land rover defender v8 with rear wheel drive only, actually a Mazda 6 mps has almost the same suspension set up as the 800 and off corse 4wd so maybe a future mod 4 the vitesse as its only downside it the FWD, still haven't figured out pics yet, doing a mod on the 800 at the minute to remove the slightly rusty fuel filler pipe completely maybe of internet to other will take pic its is a bugga to do thue

I know a Rover V8 fits in the engine bay of an R8. Fitting a V8 into an 800 should be a doddle compared to that.

Let me get this right - you want to turn a 4WD into a RWD and a FWD into a 4WD? Unless you're building a dedicated drifter (are you?) i think the Landy would be best left as a 4WD, even if you just left it in 2WD most of the time. As for the 800 going 4x4, the later model (96 on i think) Honda Legends had an AWD system so would be an ideal donor car for things like axles etc.

What are you doing on the fuel filler? I used a marine stainless filler and marine fuel hose to connect it - no chance of that rusting out! Still interested to see what you're doing though, might be an option when my other filler goes. :D
Cheers,
Dave

That's about the jist of it 4wd into rwd as I want to make my landie more usable on the motorway and just as unusual motorways a quick as my vitesse and the vitesse into 4wd as it'll even try to spin the front wheels in 3rd on a wet day I did consider a Honda legand but I haven't seen one for years Evan a normal one but mps,s are ready available, I love the rover v8 iv built atleast 8 of them including the strocker lump in my landie now but thay are a bit weak you struggle to get over 500hp without damaging it the t16 if far far stronger

And the last thing I would do is violate my vitesse by putting in a BMW engine, to be honest iv lost count how meny m3 m5 and 911 drivers iv p-off over the years becose thay finally figure out it was a rover thay couldn't keep up with!

Nice looking car! As for the BMW/Mercedes/VAG community, their faces are priceless when they see an 800 lift the front end (not once, but 3 times in quick succession!) at 80-90 and disappear in a cloud of dust at speeds well into 3 figures. Had exactly that a week or so back after being cut up by some bloated squashed frog of a VW (Phaeton maybe?) who had cut me up on a roundabout then tailgated me halfway up the dual carriageway, sitting on my drivers side rear flank and matching his speed with mine forcing me to either brake heavily to get him past me or flooring the loud pedal. I took the latter option!  After this had happened twice (after out-gunning him from the roundabout in the first place) when it was about to happen the third time i made sure he couldn't do it again! His face was an absolute picture of "WTF!!!"

You should be able to do that just as easily, especially if you've tweaked yours! :D
Cheers,
Dave
