Andy - can you add a photo of the middle bit of floor you need the carpet for?

You've certainly done a lot of work to the beast, nice to see that it is road going at long last! :D
Cheers,
Dave

Here's a photo of the base middle section without the locking mechanism as i'll only be carpeting the base as the wood for the mechanism is already painted.

That is a seriously impressive effort there.
Do you plan to 'smooth out' or de clutter the boot or cut off the surplus mounitng points? Quite a bit of work i know.

I have a complete grey interior carpet that i was going to fit into the Vitesse Coupe. have decided to keep the original and repair it as the twist in the fiber is better in the later models. When Kyle had the car, (I believe)

if you want it, it's yours for Postage.

Cheers Phil :)

I'll probably enclose the fuel tank then probably just carpet the boot area, not sure on de cluttering it yet.

I appreciate the offer of the carpet! I'll need to cut it up and find a flat piece big enough as the original carpets end at the base of the rear seat which is the same as the carpets in the car already, so i'll pass on it but thanks anyway :D

Just a suggestion Andy, if you're going to use a different sort of carpet for the centre area, why not do it in a contrasting colour? Highlight the difference rather than trying to hide it if you see what i mean? Might work as a concept, might not, difficult to tell from the pics whether it would or wouldn't.

To give you an idea what i mean, i'm fitting this Atlantic Blue carpet in my Sterling soon :

Image

To add a bit of contrast to the door cards and "tie them to the carpet" with the blue/beige theme, i've done this :

Image

Maybe a few ideas will come from that? :D

Dave

Looks quite cool that, blue on cream !

I do have the carpet that covered the tank when it was in the middle, greyish, very thin so easy to manipulate and stick/screw onto the wood, if not i'll raid a local carpet shops "offcuts" :P

Thanks, i hoped it would! Should look even better once it's in the car as well!

While you're raiding the carpet shop, try and get an offcut of the 1/2" thick, foam rubber type underlay, it has a TOG rating of 3.5 if memory serves and improves the boot carpet no end when it's used with that! Makes life much quieter too! :D

Dave

Lovely lady from DVLA phoned me earlier, said i can't use the Rover 827 name, so had to think of another..

Phoned her back and used your suggestion Dave.

So it's called...... ROVOR 1654 :D

I was thinking of using Bonkers 1654, or even after the original builder Yasu, but Rovor is quite apt :P

Hopefully fingers crossed i'll have the doc in my hand early next week if not on Saturday!!!

Then number plate time and i can drive it :D :D

Thanks Andy! :P

Surprised they didn't let you use Rover seeing as it's made from two halves of a Rover and two halves make a whole one.
That said you have a palindromic name for a palindromic car! :D

Dave

Np :)

I could have waited a bit longer and maybe come up with something else but it's pretty cool. My brother wanted to call it something inappropriate, so this was a safe bet, but i'm also impatient and wanted to get driving it soon :)

My remote central locking kit arrived today, all £8.99 of it!, 2 x remotes and it works ok from my little testing on a PSU and a multi meter. I'll wire it into door lock switch feeds, bottom of the A pillar on one side, no need to do both sides, may even wire it up to the indicators! Saying that, i did think it would be cool to wire it up to flash the side lights instead.

I wired mine into the indicators Andy, the one i got was an alarm as well and had a single wire for the indicator output with a split into two wires with blocking diodes inside. I picked up on the indicator wires behind the hazard warning switch, nice and easy that way!

Or, with a couple of relays, flywheel diodes and blocking diodes you could get it to flash the front and rear frog lights.

Dave

Fitted the remote central locking kit the other day, works nicely, flashing the indicators when i lock/unlock. :)

Fitted 12v sockets and led lights to the boot yesterday.

Carpeted the boot and centre section today,

Not the neatest of jobs, but's not easy working with all those angles etc, but the photo makes it look worse than it is... Honest

Before

Image

After with lights on. (bonnet pin switch, so lights go off when shut).
I thought about putting the COB LED light strips on the bonnet, but they would blind you more than light up the boot. :P

Image

Storage space to the left of the fuel tank under the carpet., easily fit 5L coolant bottle, slime tyre fix and 5L fuel can.

Image

LED lights with 2 x 12v sockets.

Image

Carpet was cheap enough, 4m x 1m at Carpet right for £11.96, did the boot and centre section, i did buy 2 x 500ml cans of contact adhesive for £6 quid from toolstation.

All good work there Andy! Nice to see it coming together as a car more than an art project as i think Yasu created it as.

Interesting fuel filler neck as well! :D

Dave

It was initially vertical but as it was the original filler hose from when the tank was in the centre it was starting to perish on the outside, i thought it would fail the IVA on that, so bought a new hose which turned out to be stiffer than i anticipated, so put it at an angle like that!

The bigger diameter fuel hose is quite stiff, i've got a length of marine rated fuel hose on my Coupé with a stainless marine boat deck filler cap - no more rusty filler neck for me! :P

Same goes for you as well! :D
