Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Again; impressive! And what a nice effort with the pics and everything, great to follow! I think I have a similar problem with my clutch pedal, worn clevis. Haven't dived into it yet but now I got the inspiration!

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
I had a brainwave about this earlier James. Posted most of this on Henriks thread (as i saw his thread first) but here are the important bits :
A suggestion for repairing the pedal :
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rod-End-Top- ... 2668528828
I'm fairly sure there's enough play in the yoke that attaches to the pedal to fit this, maybe with a washer (i'd probably use an M8 washer and drill it out to 10mm I/D) on the end without the brim just to keep things equal.
If using the original style clevis pin, there's probably enough space left to do that, if not the brim could be sanded down (or skimmed in a lathe) or maybe re-drill a different hole in the clevis pin (or bolt!) for the clip.
Obviously the pedal would need to be drilled out to M10 for the bush or enlarged using a file if the hole is seriously mis-shapen.
It would mean the wearing faces could easily be replaced in the future without having to resort to major surgery to the pedal or anything else.

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Getting ready for the retro rides gathering tomorrow at Shelset Walsh. Cleaned and cleaned for hours, including clay bar, polish and then wax. Follow obligatory petrol station photo.
It’s actually my first fill up. Inserted £60 of Shell’s finest V-Power. The 3/4 tank of fuel I inherited was around 6 months old so it might drive a bit better???

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
You'll probably notice it's a bit livelier and get a few hiccups as you clear the old fuel out, especially if it's something grim like Tesco fuel. Also worth giving BP Ultimate Unleaded a try, you may well find it runs better on that than the V-Power - both of my beasts prefer BP to Shell and the added bonus is i can get BP Ultimate from Sainsburys pumps a lot cheaper than BP pumps! It's the only supermarket fuel i'll use, simply because it's been proven BP are the only suppliers to Sainsburys so you get the same quality fuel but cheaper.
Certainly done a nice job on the clean-up James - well done!

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
First serious outing on the Vitesse today, 380 mile round trip to the Retrorides Gathering at Shelsey Walsh.
Had an early start, the round the M25 and up the M40. Stopped at Banbury at the retail park for a sausage and egg McMuffin. Look out from the restaurant all misty eyed about how great this car is!
Remember I haven’t driven this thing at motorway speeds before.... what a great cruiser. at 90 plus in super comfy leather arm chairs. The radio picks up 5 live better than my 2009 BMW??? I also like having indicators that I have control over rather than the annoying 3 click or constant that is hard to correct, which seems to be standard fit on most modern shite.
Can really is at home on motorway. Not much wind noise for an old car and still quite punchy at high speed.
Got to the gathering at 10am, but like a proper spanner forgot to get cash out so had the drive back to petrol station!
Parked up next to a p6 rover v8. Not too many rovers on site which was a shame. Only saw a 620ti, bronze 827si, 2 sd1’s and a 216. Where have all the rovers gone, this makes me sad.
Arriving

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Looks like you had a superb day out there James!
As you say, very few Rovers of any sort, Sunderlands finest Japanese export/import, the FWD Nissan Bluebird seemed to have more examples there than all the Rovers!

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Nice trip! And I couldnt agree more, these cars are excellent in the motorway. Stable, comfortable, quite nice power in the 2.5-3.5k rev range. Power on tap. Looking back a few pages in your thread shows some amazing progress!

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Read your thread. One thing I noticed
Your centre console isnt fitted properly.
The gearstick wood should sit on top of the under handbrake wood, and the front of the centre console facia the switches and handbrake are on should slip under the front part.

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
Thanks ocd Phil!
I thought something wasn’t right as the beige moulded but didn’t align very well?
In other news the car is now for sale and I have sent an interested party a whole load of photos etc to see if they want it. Plus I picked up a spare engine.
When I first started this project I was browsing the net for spare engines in case this one was toast. I found one not that far away and made some enquiries. The seller wanted too much so I let it pass. Anyway a few days ago he got back in touch, and despite not needing it, I took it as a spare. Allegedly done 70k (no proof). Got it home and I’m loaded it. Took off cam covers. Internals absolutely spotless! No wear what so ever. No oil sludge. Pretty much perfect! Came with turbo and driveshafts, ecu etc. It’s also a 200bhp late coil pack engine from a vitesse. Result!

Are you contemplating an engine swap James?

Re: Rover 820 Vitesse Sport Lux Gold
So are you now going to build a new car round the engine?
