The Haynes-book is useless as far as I can tell as it seems to tackle the mk1.

I have removed a few obvious screws but there is no movement what so ever. These brass-looking small screws cant be all it takes? What am I missing? The two large ones (10mm head) in the door openings are removed.

I read about a screw in the middle? Is it under the small cap for the IR sensor? Cant seem to see anything there.

Managed to remove the centre bolt under the IR sensor. And a 13mm hex just by the bonnet opening latch.

Jesus. This is some serious stuff for an old man.

From memory you don't need to touch any of those little screws/bolts.

Have you removed the ones on the ends behind the caps?

The centre bolts are behind where the stereo wiring is.

Making sure all the doors seals are out the way and possible even removing the A pillar trims is a good idea as not to damage them. Especially when re-fitting the dash. Most of the wiring comes away with the dash, just make sure the main connectors are undone.

I think we had a guide on this at one time, I'll have a quick look.

Thanks Chris.
Yes the ones under the caps are gone. (In the door openings.)

The centre one is gone at the top. But I cant find any behind the stereo?

A-pillar trim is gone.

Now the dash feels ”lose” in the uppger section but something hold on to it further down. Must I remove the two 10mm hex that holds the fuse box? I presume not?

Must I remove the steering Column?? I really hope not!

Edit: are the multiplugs different, so Impossible to mix or are they the same - so I have to mark them? Most plugs/connectors seem to be unique?

There will be at least two bolts behind that wiring in the above pic. Very close to the floor above the transmission tunnel.

I don't remember taking out the fusebox. There will be a bracket near it though at the bottom of the dash with a bolt in it.

You have 2 choices on the column, I wouldn't remove it. But you can either lower it after undoing the nuts holding it up. Or take off the cowl and remove the switches off it.

The plugs will be specific and not possible to mix up.

It has been quite a while since I last took one out so I'm having to think a bit.

7 years now since my last cars went. So a little while before that since I last did a dash swap. Sometime in 2010 or 2011 probably.

Once it gets back in, I'll probably have a handful of nuts and bolts left over that I never found where they came from.

I've come to the conclusion that manufacturers deliberately hide nuts, bolts, screws, washers etc behind trim so when you take a car apart, you always end up with leftovers. :P  :D

Now time for a break.

Question: all of the yellow wiring is for the SRS-system, right? If the airbag is disconnected, is it possible to leave them or even better to rip them out?

Up to you is the answer.

No issues with MOT over there if you remove it?

I did it several times when fitting after market steering wheels. I once even went so far as to change the glass so the little logos weren't present to know SRS had ever been fitted.

No problem with our MOT as the light works! ;) Actually I have already made a disconnection of the SRS lamp via relay, so the system is already disconnected. I made this decision many years ago as the light flickered and not one single Rover workshop could help me over here unless spending zillions of cash.

Reason Im asking is as there are loads of yellow cables everywhere. I just want to get rid of them but wanted to make sure that yellow loom=SRS. (Not to mess with something else!!)

The plan now is to get the matrix out this weekend. Then to find someone capable of soldering it together again!

I dont need ”Good luck”. I need a miracle!

You're right Henrik, the yellow loom is for the airbag system. If you can remove it without falling foul of any local laws then go for it! :D
