By rights, the car should have a higher load rating tyre Henrik, i believe it should be 91 on the 17" wheel and it could cause you problems.

Image

You can see the difference there, might not sound much but insurance companies might pounce on it if the worst ever happened and void the insurance. I can't find the load rating for the tyres, even in the Rover WSM which is kind of annoying.
Cheers,
Dave

The Avon tyres on my Vitesse Coupe are 87 load index, it's had them on it since I bought the car in 2001, obviously not the same set, but as I have needed to replace pairs I have stuck with the same tyre.

For the 215/45/17? I’m equally certain I’ve read that they used Dunlop with 87 load index. I’ll see if I can find it.

Mine are 205/55/16 but the load index applies to all tyres, it's how much weight each will safely carry.

Looking up the maximum rear axle weight in the Rover WSM, it states 910kg so 87 load rating will be acceptable (545kg per tyre) as it gives a total of 1090kg across the rear axle.

I looked up the tyres i have on mine :

https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B007CYYNXM

Falken Ziex ZE914 Ecorun - 205/55/R16 91V

I did briefly own an 827SLi that had Vitesse 6-spoke 17" wheels from new but never got any tyres for it. Had i kept it, i would have found a set of 16s for it as i found the 17s way too harsh on my back, especially on the local roads that are more pothole than tarmac!
Cheers,
Dave

Is the load rating different for the coupe because its a heavier car?
I thought the load was 91 ?

Sorry to read your woes Henrik. Hope you get it sorted..and remember to have the tracking done as well.

My car originally came with 205/55-16 as it (used to be) a normal Vitesse 180bhp. In the V5 documents nothing is stated on the load index but that's not strange as the car is imported many years ago. The Swedish tester probably didn't care to put this into the documents.

Still fairly certain they had load index of 87, and I know I've read it in some kind of commercial pamphlett on the "new" facelift mk2 Vitesse Sport., The reason was for keeping the lower profile as soft as possible, for comfort reasons and the load index is no problem really.

Thanks Charles, following your thread aswell regarding the stat! :)

Ps: If you look in the very first page of this thread you can see what it looked like when I got it.

The Mk2 pamphlet you were reading, was that referring to the Vitesse Sport hatch/Saloon or the coupe?

What I meant to say earlier was that the coupe is a heavier car compared to the other two 800 variants.

As I understood, the 16" and 17" wheels fitted to the respective variants of the Mk2 Coupe version, had been in the 91 bracket.
The Coupe is already a heavier car with only 16" wheels fitted and heavier still with 17".
And its still a proper 4 seater coupe car unlike any conventional coupe, which might only have enough room in the backseats for small lightweight children.

Regarding the Mk2 hatch/saloon there is more than one load speed, for example 87 and91.

Voilà!
Actually quite pleased with the sound aswell! Simple to use and a lot of power. My Alpine 3 way 8inch speakers love it.

Stage 1: gearbox indoors.

To rewind the Maxell c60 a few minutes: My ”new” gearbox started to sound like one of my Austin Sevens so I realized the bearings were shot.

The plan is to clean, strip and to fit new bearings.

That's a nuisance Henrik! Is this the one with the missing filler plug?

Yes unfortunately. So I need to inspect the internals. :(
At least the neighbours cat isn’t missing so that wont be hiding inside the box.

I'd make a guess that it's lost its oil via the missing filler plug thanks to that garages incompetence. Echoes of the story of the Volvo back axle!

I hope it's fixable with a new set of bearings, seals and little or nothing else! Might be just as easy to rebuild the one with the Tor-Sen diff instead seeing as you now have to rebuild at least one?

Filler plug, washer for your box and the third part is the 36 tooth second gear on special offer if it helps! :D

Dave

No Dave. This box is my old box, the original. I swapped this for a newer Torsen 2 box as that would be better on paper as it had only done 130.000km, about 80k miles. My box has passed 125-130k miles and was starting to show signs of wear. The Torsen 2 is still on the car and that one seems knackered.

And the story on the missing drain plug is simple. I forgot it when I collected the ”scrap box.”
